Resetting ECU makes me happy :)

It's a fact....
...that the ECU is adaptive to driving style. The owner's manual talks about that IIRC.
I have done the reset and the car is more touchy and responsive to driver input. It feels quicker. In fact, the tires are more prone to wheel slip until the VSA kicks in.
I have also determined that you can achieve a similar reset by shifting to a higher gear in MANUAL mode at low RPM and holding WOT (wide open throttle) letting the car build up speed slowly. Somewhere in it's integrated circuit guts, the "brain" senses my foot spending a lot of time on the bulkhead and figures I want to kick out the jams. It adjusts accordingly.
What else would adaptive driving be for? It is very logical and not complicated to do for the engineers.
BTW... at a steady 79 MPH on the Turnpike for a couple of hours, I get 30 MPG with windows up and A/C on. If I turn the A/C off, I can coax another 1 or 2 MPG. That's at night with cooler air. During the heat of the day, I lose 1 or 2 MPG. Also, cooler tires have less rolling resistance.

Question guys. Does this reset apply to both MT and AT? Anyone with a MT that tried this and noticed anything different? havent tried this yet but wanna know if its even worth it.

Without a doubt!!!!!! I read this thread and thought I'd try it since so many symptoms were being described in here by fellow owners. I've owned my TL since it was 5600 miles old and I've never even known to RESET anything.
HOLY CRAP!!! She was responding like a new car!!!!! Seeing is believing....

I was curious about the effects of an ECU-reset on a M/T as well: I tried it (with both of the ways mentioned in this thread), and felt no difference (which makes sense, in hindsight).

I came across this thread today and I was reading everyones comments and I didnt believe it at all. But after spending close to a half hour reading what you all were saying I decided to go give it a shot, and... HOLY HELL!!! It made a huge difference! The throttle response is so much better it isnt even funny! But are there any adverse effects of doing this besides lose of mpg's? And how often is it ok to do this?

Worked on my 2gen TL but it went back to the slug mode after a week since I'm in traffic all the time. I guess I could spend 3 minutes of my time doing it every weekend but it would be much better if it were permanent.

i dont know if this was posted, but I saw a question asking if there is any signal to let you know the reset is complete.
There is.
The engine light will flash, then turn off after the 30 seconds and the computer is reset.

Now it makes sense! This procedure (resetting ecu) absolutely does affect my car's ('06 auto) responsiveness, shifting, and generally makes the car "come alive." I think my dealer does it every time I take it in for any kind of service. I could never figure out why the car always felt so much more lively after any service appointment . Unfortunately, though, it does gradually go back to feeling sluggish within about a week. Still, Great Tip!

Ahhhh I just did this like 5 minutes ago....... Not sure if it worked or its just placebo...... Any certified Acura Techs on here that can verify that this procedure of "Reseting the ECU" works....

Lol, I read up to page III and smiled a bit.
I only laughed because I was surprised you all just learned this now...
Let me brief you all a bit about this "mod".
What you all are ultimately doing is reseting the Transmission ECU and DBW ECU. What this does is alter shift points for the Transmission, you stay in gear longer climbing in the RPM band where the power is. You also reset the DBW system so it will read your half throttle imput as 50% whereas in the past it might have been 35%. So what happens is you get your car to stay in gear longer and you don't have to put your foot to the floor to get full throttle.
This will cause no harm in the car is the perfect mod to do when your car feels sluggish, it doesn't make your car any faster than before at full throttle, no HP is gained, but what it does is give it some more zing during partial throttle.

No cons that I can think of either.
I recommend performing the reset once per week for a daily driver. As noticed by others in this thread and myself, the effects will begin to wand/diminish after the 4th day of daily driving after the reset.

Area on my XM
I did this several months ago, and the acceleration and shift curve did temporarily improve (long before this thread originated), which seems to be the general concensus here. At first, I thought it was in my head, but I guess there is some fact behind it.

The effect is indeed real - Mine shifts with lots less hesitation & throttle pressure in traffic afterwards... But it is temporary if you slack off for a few days.

I tried this today, and im not really sure if it did anything. It is very hard to tell. I find the TL very hesitant and sluggish in the summer months, but perfect in the winter. So when I did it....I didn't really notice a difference to be honest.

I did read the entire thread and then went a did the procedure myself. Like others posting here, I noticed zero difference. Based on the fact that it's not in the tech manual, there is no visual or audible confirmation and no one with "real" knowledge has posted that it's true I'm calling BS on this one. Sorry if that makes me come off as uniformed.

This isn't going to make your car any faster, I think this was the best explanation in the whole thread:

The reset of ECU will be noticed by those who drive like a grandma.. simple..done.
Floor the car at WOT once/twice a week, and you'll never have to reset anything... I unleash on empty roads, so I'm covered. Is there an improvement after resetting ECU? sure... Do you really want to disable the wonderful technology of drive-by-wire? absolutely not...unless you don't care for mpg. If this was a vital maintenance requirement it would be written so in manuals and bulletin boards.
P.S. Please do not get offended on the "grandma" driving comment... The sluggish way your car is driving now is because this is how YOU drive., it adapts to YOU.. Don't baby the car, your honda does not like it! So enjoy the car and safely push it...enjoy the roar

I dont know why this car becomes so damn sluggish and slow when its warm out but it pisses me off, almost to the point where I want to sell the car and get a 06 lexus gs 300 or something else.

Our ECU is designed to work like this, it compensates for hot weather and oxygen/gas mixture... It sucks but your engine will easily outlive bmw/benz motors. I think our ECU is mostly tuned like that to improve mpg

I also notice while I was doing this that the engine light went off after about 20-30 seconds. I did the reset but haven't had the chance to drive it hard yet. I drive to and from the train every day about 10 minutes so no HWY driving yet.

Holy shift points Batman!!
I was moving my Dad's TL (5AT) out of the driveway to wash mine (6MT), and decided to drive his around the block and then try this on it.
My Dad's driving style is "grandma-like" at best - he has never put the shifter in manual mode, and in the 4 years he has owned the car, I highly doubt he's put the pedal to the floor more than 5-10 times. He also got new tires this winter, after putting 70k on the stock michelin pilot a/s tires.
Needless to say, the difference in throttle response and shift points was immense. It should be pretty funny to see his reaction when he drives it. Hopefully he doesn't launch it into somebody's bumper in traffic due to the increased throttle response.
