reseting or turning back milage
Is this anything that we have to be concearned about with our cars ? is it even possible , reason y im asking is my friend is about to buy an 07 TL from a dealer here in Phila it was used as a demo however there is only 887 miles on it < I was under the impression that it is Impossible to messw ith the milage on these car ... However i talked a tech at sussman acura that claims it very much can be done ... True or false?

yes it can be done. and it doesnt have to be at the dealer. ive had friends who did it to their cars.
oh yea, tell your friend not to buy from sussman. the service dept are retards and the sales dept tries every trick in the book to screw you over. i wont even go back there even though i have free services for my 06 tl.

Yes it can be done. You just gotta know the right people. Usually somebody in the autobody industry would know how to, or would know who to recommend, as I know this for a fact. You also dont need to switch out the clusters, some can do it by attaching a laptop to it and changing the numbers to what they want. I dont know from prior experience so dont ask me anything about it!
And you can get into alotttaaaaa trouble doing it so i recommend not even thinking about it!!!

Some of you guys act like this is the first time you've heard about this. This has been around a long time. I wouldn't be suprised if there weren't tens of thousands of vehicles out there that have been tampered with.

My old Accord was tampered with and I figured it out after I bought it. It was 12 years old so I did not care that much. I was just thinking that with the electronic milage keeping, it should have been harder to manipulate. It seems not.

I can't speak for Honda/Acura (I assume it's similar), but with Audi/VW products you need the dealer diagnostic software and you could have to purchase a new cluster. The cluster mileage can be rolled only forward and only done once. With Audi the mileage needs to be entered into the diag software in kilometers when rolling it fwd. I've seen techs who were doing a cluster replacement and they entered it in miles rather than km, and they then had to order another cluster and do it over again.
I'm assuming Honda is similar (roll forward only-once) and you probably also need the Honda Diagnostic software. This is not going to be done with generic OBD software.

Oh, dont get me wrong, I completely agree with you! I figure with new cars with all the wrappings still on them, there is a less chance for someone to tamper with it, but as you said, they can still do whatever with the cars, wrapping or no wrapping ( I may have taken paranoia to a whole other level with my actions! LOL!)..... conclusion: deceptive people suck!

Turning back the mileage im not sure of but not registering miles can be done on almost any car with a digital odometer I know a guy that does it. He installs a switch that when it is turned on it turns off your speedo and odometer thus your car doesn't register miles untill the switch is turned back off. He figured out how to do this because he was sick of going over the miles on his leases.

Well anyways this is very illegal, by just replacing the gauge module doesnt reset or turn back the miles if a new module is installed it will probably read ---- until the actual mileage is unlocked and transferred using the HDS, it can probably be done by unplugging something in the vehicle possibly the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor on the transmission, but not sure if the vehicles ecm will still record the mileage. But if this is done the odometer and spedometer wont read!
