Replacing Trunk Springs Post- Type-S Spoiler Install

For all that have installed a Type-S spoiler on their cars, have you considered replacing your trunk springs with the stiffer Type-S trunk springs? Has anyone tried?

From acuraoemparts.com:

Part #10 74871-SEP-A20 SPRING, R. TRUNK OPENER 1 2007 TL 5.77
Part #11 74872-SEP-A20 SPRING, L. TRUNK OPENER 1 2007 TL 5.77

Theoretically, these springs should allow the trunk lid to open up higher than the base TL springs (since the Type-S spoiler is bigger, heavier ). For about $12, if it works, I'm going to do it. I have a feeling I will probably need a special spring installation tool to do the swap.

There have been previous threads on the wing spoiler springs, but they're more expensive than these and I'm not sure if I can buy them separate from the spoiler. Thoughts/comments appreciated.

P.S. Kennedy, I saw your thread in the Black Market.

Here is the thread on the Type-S spoiler installation: I have installed a type-S spoiler on my 05 TL

You'll definately NEED a trunk spring tool. I'd like to get the spring for the wing, but found it's not available seperately... I installed a dynamat throughout the trunk to include the trunk lid. My trunk lid is HEAVY.

The trunk still opens fine, but it's the safety of that thing losing on my head I'm worried about.

Thumbs down

I have an 07 Type-S and can testify that the trunk lid does not open very far. It goes up about 2-3 inches and then settles down a bit from there. Sure it's better than nothing - when I had the TSX w/ a wing spoiler the trunk lid was a total dud - but it seems like alot of time and labor for not much result..

It's not the opening I'm concerned about... If I don't control the closing of my trunk lid with my hand it SLAMS hard with the extra weight from the spoiler and the dynamat. The spring would help control that momentum.

Why would they be? I have a 2006, and have the stock springs.
The TL-S has a spoiler installed, thus the springs from it SHOULD be stiffer.

Lee, looks like can you get the wing springs seperately...

001 08F12-SEP-20020 SPRING, R. 1 2006 TL 27.14 21.60
002 08F12-SEP-20021 SPRING, L. 1 2006 TL 27.14 21.60

Sucks that the TL-S springs are $12, but the beefy wing springs are $42.

You're right though, I'm getting those.
