Replacing Stock Amp and Speakers?
I have a question for someone with more smarts than me.
I was wondering if I replaced my stock amp with an aftermarket 5 channel amp....4 channels for the doors and rear deck, and one channel for the the sub.....would I loose the "suround sound" Would I still be able to play DVD-A's, but would they just not be in surround sound?
Now I know that I will most likely be shot for saying this...but.....I don't really care about the DVD-A "surround" disks. I have hundreds of CD's, and I would like to start putting wav files on DVD's, but I am just fine with the audio quality of a regular CD. I do realize that DVD-A sounds better, but I do not want to replace my entire CD collection. I have hundreds of mixed CD's.
To me, I would get much more benefit by putting in a new amp, and all new high quality speakers, ditching the low quality stock speakers and amp, and just listening to my CD's and XM. God willing this would make my XM sound cleaner.

The stock amp receives a 6 channel input (5.1) from the head unit so I think it's possible to tap into those wires. If you were to use a 5 channel amp then you lose the center channel, but maybe that's your intention anyway.

Time to POWER UP!!
You would need 2 amps or a 6 channel amp to get it set up correctly. A 5 channel will supply pwr to the front, rear and center channel. The other amp will be for the sub only. There are some higher end (expensive) 6 channel amps that have a dedicated channel for low pwr output center channel spkrs. I am currently thinking about changing spks and subs in my TL. I will have one of our techs open up a TL to show me what needs to be done.
The panasonic amp is in the passenger side kick pannel area. I will try and take a look at it when i get a chance.
