Replacing leather
Replacing leather
My leather started cracking around 1500 miles. Finally, last night i dropped it off at the dealer to be inspected at around 4500 miles. Today they told me they are going to replace the leather. They said it may not be as tight as it originally was.
Has anyone had this do to their car?

The lower part of the driver seat and the shift knob were cracking really badly on my TL. The manager agreed that the wear was unusually bad so he or she signed off on it being replaced for free even though it was out of warranty.
Initially, it felt different (not in a good way, either) and looked less lustrous than the rest of my leather, but with repeated applications of leather cleaner/protectant, both have improved.
At first, it looked pretty taut but now it looks slightly loose.
Hopefully these images give you a better idea of how it looks now.

The drivers seat in my 06 had started to show cracks around the seams and stitching after like 6 months. The dealer replaced the leather on the top part of the seat, but I never really liked how it was done. It looked like they had to force the leather cover over the seat and ended up bunching up some of the foam so that it looked lumpy under the leather. Also, the leather didn't look as taut as the other seats and it looked a little wrinkled. They gave me the BS line that the leather would tighten over time and would look better once the summer heat got to it.. we'll see. Since then, I've conditioned the leather and I'm keeping an eye on it, although I must admit I haven't really noticed it much lately.
I've had my car for a year and two months, since last November and I have 32K mi. do you guys think the dealer will replace my leather? My leather is in really bad shape its cracking wrinkled and it looks a mess.

Hmm, this thread is making me think that I should double of how much time I put in reconditioning the leather, I only have 2K miles on it, I don't need the leather looking like crap.
Question, when you guys sit in your car, do you just drop in and adjust, or do you try to sit in slowly and correctly?? (stupid question, but I'm curious, maybe its our habits that are killing the leather)

its a crock dude itll be as tight if not look for an upholstery shop and ask them to hog ring the material a lil tighter to the rods in the foam. and its mostly vinyl so with a lil heat from the sun it'll tighten right up.

also, when i get out, i try not to scuff the panels. camel interior shows marks really bad.
Many dealers use an outside supplier for leather and leather work. If your Acura's leather wore out faster than it should have, perhaps you would be better off with the replacement leather than with more of the original stuff.
