Replacement door handle end caps

Two of the caps on my door handle fell off and looking for replacement. I'm not sure exactly what they are called but its the little piece on the door handle that does not move when you open the door. If anyone knows where i can order some online, please let me know. Thanks.

Got warranty?

There's a TSB: http://www.in.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SB/B07-043.PDF

No warranty? Maybe if you're nice, bring some doughnuts, they'll do 'em good will.

I didn't know there was a tsb on these. My dealer replaced my drivers door one when I took it in for a dead battery. I had a "shaved" one, and had to pop it off to get in the car. I was surprised they replaced it (with the original keyhole one) for free. Now I know why.

how to remove door handle

So i got the replacement caps with the assembly but the caps dont snap on to the existing assembly so i need to take the door handle off and attach the new assembly. Can anyone explain to me how i need to do this? Do i need to take the panels off the inside of the door? Thanks.

I purchased mine through http://www.hondapartsunlimited.com/ . When I received it, it was for the right side front so the curved part opposite the side with the square hole that latches it on did not fit flush. But it'll have to do for now. It snapped right on, I didn't have to replace the metal part. $8.99 plus shipping...unfortunately shipping was $12 something, so I'm going to see if my dealer has one.

Ok so i went out and tried it again and this time it snapped on. I had to really push it in hard to get it to catch. As i was replacing the 2 missing i noticed the one for my driver door is also about to come off too. What a great design! Thanks guys.

I found some caps on eBay too. I'm going to order another one. $15.99 shipped. limited colors, but I emailed him and he does have others in stock.

This is just one of them. check the other items or email to find a specific color.

Don't you have a local Acura dealer? If the list is $11.99 .. just pick one up there.

Cheaper at Acura and maybe FREE if you coax them into appling the TSB posted above.

They get PAID by ACURA (parts and labor) if you can convince them to do the work good will.

The TSB says to replace the entire piece and not just snap on the colored part. This was apparently because the manufactured had a defect in the size of the original metallic part the cover snaps to. When you order the replacement it comes with the cover and the metallic piece.

My question is the same as a guy above, how do you replace that metallic piece? Do you have to take the door off?

I got mines from oemacuraparts.com, price 9 and some change plus shipping it was like $12. I don't know how but my driver side door cap came off, so when I got the new piece I just took the plastic cap of that little metal part and snap it on the metal part that was left on the door. Only problem is the key hole doesn't look the same, now is has a open hole.

i just got off the phone with the dealership and they told me that in order to install the cap and metal piece you have to do it from the inside of the door which means taking of the door panel and accessing the backside of the handle. The dealership quoted me 18 plus tax a piece so it looks like I will be glueing this piece on.

Glue will work perfectly. No need to replace the metal part... it just clips onto the metal part. I used Gorilla Glue... after my second one fell off... just removed and glued all the rest while I was at it. No problems since then.

Excuse my laziness from earlier, I finally gave the installation a real effort. You really don't need to replace the metal part. And honestly you probably don't even need the glue (just b/c I know how using glue in those situations for me always ends with glue all over my panels.)

Here what I did:

If you take just the colored part of the new piece you got, you install the tail end in first to the metal part on the door.

Then you push the front down with the clip. It wasn't clicking for me so I figured the metal piece was miss-shapen.
Actually though, you need to get a thin, flat head screw driver and hold your door handle in the open position. Place the screw driver behind the metal piece just to hold it out. Then you can easily feel the click of your new plastic piece. Honestly, it feels just as solid, if not more, than the others. So, I'd say glue is optional. HTH

edit: After reading people with this happening multiple time, I may glue mine too, but just be careful.

I wanted to ask everyone... about gluing the door handle cap back on, where would you place the glue? There isn't much real estate to glue the cap on. Nervous about using gorilla glue because it expands so much and super glue might melt in hot weather. Can someone please show or let me know what they used and did? Thanks.

See the square tab with the black dot on it ( left side ).. thats where I would put an adhesive ... BUT all I would use is a dab of clear silicone

So I was able to pry up the plastic piece. When I went to install it on the car the little tab with the black dot would click in fully. Is that why you need to use Gorilla glue. Shouldn't both sides snap in? I know you are supposed to remove door panel and replace the entire piece (metal included), but I'm not risking breaking a few tabs to fix a small door component.
