Removing and replacing rear view mirror ball joint
Hi all,
Im installing a reverse cam that's integrated into the rearview mirror, so I need to replace the mirror. The new mirror does not have a proper bracket that fits the TL, so I was wondering if I could just switch ball joints and use the OEM mirror joint and bracket to make it a perfect fit.
Both Mirrors have a wire that's connected through the joint (OEM mirror for rearview dimming, aftermarket mirror for powering the screen). I'm guessing the wires can be removed, the new wires put in place and the old joint can be fixed into the new mirror. Anyone had experience of how to remove the ball joint? Is it just yank as hard as you can? Do not see any external screws that may help.
Id be happy to help with anyone stuck trying to remove their mirror. from the joint, which was the hardest part. FYI, pulling down on the metal tab that everyone describes does not do anything to help. You need to slide it off. Wasn't that hard for me, but couldn't have done it without the resources here.

I'd check behind the 'wire cover' (A) where the red arrow indicates, if there is not some kind of screw / bolt / nut holding the ball in place, it may be part of the assembly that can't be separated.
If you do attempt to separate it with a yank as hard as you can, you may want to source a cheap one from a salvage yard as a trial.
