Experience has shown that most salesman are just that. "Maybe" a thank you or a certificate for a $40 dinner and that was from a Lexus guy. The guy I bought my TL from said he would give me $500 and I referred a guy to him that bought a TL. Of course, he said that he "had to give my friend the same great deal he gave me and that meant that there was no extra $'s for any referral". I KNEW I should have gotten it in writing, frigging car salesmen (scum of the earth)

a new car or used car or helping your buddy or what are the circumstances

I know a guy - that has a Toyota new car connection and he charges $250 to introduce you to the guy- and then you do get major wholesale deal...allegedly!

Help a friend sell their car- 50 bucks and a beer
Help a friend find the right car- 50 bucks 2 beers

I don't like sales people. I enjoy asking them questions and then informing them how completely wrong they are. The dealership has absolutely no reason to give you anything for sending a sale their way, more importantly the sales person is going to say whatever BS he/she can to convince you to send someone else over to him/her.

My friend does used car admin work for an automotive group that has 7-8 different brands; myself and my family have purchased 8 cars through him, he sets up the deal and sends the person into finance.. they never have to deal with a sales person or pricing.

I referred my friend to the dealership to buy an MDX. After a few phone calls to my salesperson, I got $50 from them in the mail. Haven't done it again since.

I just got a $100 Shell gas card.
Ended up researching cars for my parents, and they eventually got an '07 Impala from Reedman-Toll, and their policy is $100 Shell gas card for referrals.

The salesman didn't have to, but he got me a gas card for bringing my parents in. And we got a great deal on the car. Classy IMO, and when my wife is done with her MDX, I just may see what this guy can get us into.

That's stupid, I've never heard of that. That dealership referral bonuses are supposed to be regardless of purchase price.
