Reckless Speeding Ticket

Reckless Speeding Ticket
I was traveling down at Virginia Beach and received a reckless ticket going 80 on a 50. I already have a bad record and JUST RECENTLY took a 5-point reducing driver's improvement class so I will be receiving those deductions soon.
My question is, should I get a lawyer? This is my first reckless offense even though I had many speeding tickets in the past.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

Umm, yes, of course you should get a lawyer. Reckless driving isn't a civil infraction; it's a misdemeanor. It's considered a crime in most states, if not all. Start calling lawyers and be ready to pay out the ass.

my brother received a reckless driving ticket for crossing those white lines when you merge onto a highway...the person in front of him was getting on the highway (where the speed limit is 65) doing 40mph, so while trying to avoid being rear-ended from merging at the speed of a snail, his back tires crossed over the white lines and of course, there just happened to be a cop who saw him do this...he didn't have to go to court, but he did have to pay $320 and will have this on his record for a while, if not permanently...
kinda different than your experience, but still a reckless driving one...
see if you can work this ticket down some by taking a defensive driving course or something...

Virginia Beach is the worst city in Hampton Roads to get a reckless ticket. Virginia Beach judges have been known to routinely give jail time for first offense reckless.
Good luck,

I don't have any additional suggestions (I'd get a lawyer and a radar detector, in that order) and usually - like most of us - just one ticket for me is usually enough to take the wind out of my sails until the points go away.
But I'm kinda curious as to how you managed to do this -- attract cops like bees to honey -- is the car painted some outrageous color? Do you have a "F*CK BUSH" bumper sticker plastered on the back of the car? How? I had thought that a TL in some innocuous color was pretty close to invisible.

Most times you can plead not guilty and talk with the prosicutor before the trial and get things reduced, but it depends on your record, and if they feel like doing something for you...look like a gangster and they will screw you.
But in your case, get a lawer, as anything over 20mph speeding means loss of licence for a while, points, surcharge, etc...
I dont have a problem in the car, I never goof off or get tickets in the car, but on the motorcycle I tend to go too fast in 45mph zones and so (twisty roads) and they get me.

when i got my speeding ticket i was going 40+ miles over the limit... i suggest to you to get a lawyer... the lawyer cost me 350$ and the ticket itself will be around 210$... let your lawyer do all the talking... you should be able to drop most of the points if not all of them.. then go get yourself a V1 and your set..

I recently recieved a rather large speeding ticket in Wisconsin. 97 in a 65. It was the first time I had my TL on the open road, and I mean OPEN so I was just cruising. Got nailed by a cop taking radar on an over pass. I thought I was going to be arrested on the spot, but all she asked me for was my driver's license. no insurance or registration needed
She came back said my ticket was $312 and she needed a credit card or check. She scanned my card for the amount which won't be charged to my card until after my court date, and gave me back my driver's license, I inquired whether she thought I should get a lawyer, she really wasn't helpful, but she was acting like this ticket wasn't a big deal???? I was out an out of state driver though and apparantly Wisconsin cops just have it in for Illinois driver's.
Anyway I am going to talk to a lawyer, but I haven't had any violations in quite a while and none in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is on the point system and it is 12 points then you lose your liscense for 2 months. This violation was 6. Anyway that will be the last time I do anything like that even though the situation was much easier than I had expected. No more speeding for this guy at the very least my wallet can't take much more of idiotic stuff like this.
Good Luck. At the very least though I would talk to a lawyer, your consultation should be free of charge then you can weigh your options.

Somebody needs to learn to pay attention! The fact that you have a history of speeding tickets should be enough to make you realize you don't pay enough attention to be speeding in the first place. You have to constantly be scanning ahead and behind you for police officers and know where the gunners like to sit. We have photo radar in AZ on some freeways so you really can't speed at all in those areas without getting hit. There was one guy in a rented Hyundai doing like 140 who got hit by photo radar; a real DUMBASS!
If you are gonna speed you better be concious of your surroundings.
