I have done some very dangerous things in my youth and am just glad and humbled that I am still around to learn from them. I was lucky. I never hurt myself or anyone else in the process. But I knew people who were killed doing the same things I was doing.

I grew up in the 60's when American supercars (never called "musclecars" back then) were king and ruled the roads. For several years, I did a lot of street racing and while mostly careful and cautious (more concern for the cops than getting killed), I still did some pretty dumb things. One was racing some guy in Annandale, VA on the beltway between route 236 and Gallows Road. During the third race, I reached 132 MPH before slowing down for the exit. This was in traffic on a Sunday evening. Just think what might have happened had a car pulled out in front of me. And this was the third series of street races that evening. And yes, there was beer involved.

There were many other times and places. Like I said, I was lucky and so were those around me when I was doing this. So my advice is simple and direct.

DON'T DO THESE THINGS. Take your pleasures to a track or if you must do this on the street, find some lonely stretch of road where no one but you is a candidate for the morgue. Better yet, just don't do it.

You know doing 120+ on a highway with little to no traffic isn't that big a deal.

But doing 80 in a sidestreet is going to kill an innocent kid. Think about the consequences before you do something stupid. My neighbors boy died because of a fool like you.

Although I'm pretty safe in my TL, I did fly my girlfriend's Cutlass over the Grand Canyon once. Bet I was doing 125!

That was back in college though...

Maybe if they had to scrape the remains of their families off the street after one of these fools "I was going about 80 in a 25 on a sidestreet with 2 friends in front of me, started to pass my friend and see a cop sitting running radar, jumped on my brakes and got back over. I get blasted everytime I question the logic of giving a 17 year-old a $35K car, but in a world where we don't want to offend anyone, I guess I'm the a-hole.

This crap shouldn't even be published, and don't give me the "free speech" sermon because responses like this one are usually removed.

Very True!

Threads like this take care of themselves. Our members have a way of replying that makes it unnecessary to edit out content, as shown by all of the positive replies posted above, with probably more to come.

For each bragging post, there are several which offer constructive criticism and comments designed to make the physically challenged (in certain specific areas) think about what they have done. This makes for an informative and possibly even entertaining thread.

Let's keep it that way so it doesn't have to be closed to prevent the flames from consuming the entire forum and making us go on unemployment.
Im gonna quote you again Ron, I couldnt agree more.

seriously. to those who stereotype all the teenagers together as reckless drivers and irresponsible drivers need to face reality. We all know that when ur late, or you have to get something before someplace closes that the road rules no longer apply to you. So don't act above all of this. you know your guilty of it too.

No, people tend to ignore the rules/laws and decide to push their luck. And that's the problem.

Guys, have you ever been to Europe? Or ever driven in Europe?

Now they do stupid shit, but atleast they know how to drive for the most part. I swear we need to have much better driving tests like they do.

THe highways move, no idiots in the left lane. Just abou everyone is treated with respect on the road as long as you do the same.

And as for PA...I swear the people up here drive worse than the old farts down in FL where I used to live.

------------------------------------
As an addition to the thread:

When I had my Jetta (stage III turbo), I would frequently hit 150 driving on I-75.
I think several trips from Orlando to Home I was chillin with either a SL 55 or CL 55 or SL 500 goin about 120+ for most of the way. So an nice 2 hour trip would take about an hour.

But since I totaled that car, btw almost killing myself...I have toned it down. So hopefully all the kids learning to drive and the those that think they are invincible will learn the same lesson I did, but not the hard way.

Geez, some of u are really negative...

I mean, we all have been young at one point.

I hope all of u survive your rush's, but please go to a track or somewhere were you wont harm anyone. your not achieving anything by driving fast. i admit i used to do the same things (not as fast...my car couldent do that), and i remember, it was sorta a thril, but very scary at the same time. think about it. watch car accidents. maybe it'll change your mind, but i just hope something does.

Here's what made me stop. Had 2 friends die in highschool as well as a friend who was a girl hysterically crying after she flipped her car (some toyota) while going 70 on the highway.

Luckly ive never been in a devistating accident, but yea...

Basically, just drive the speed limit..

I totally agree. I live in Romania for like 1/3 of the year. the roads to the mountains which are like semi highways, are 2 lanes! each going opposite ways. people still manage to get around, respecting others. in the city, its like a war zone and everyone is running from their own personal godzilla or something. the round abouts crush your body with massive G forces. its hectic, but I NEVER see accidents. never see traffic on the few highways we have.

As for Florida, we have 2 problems, old people and extremly agressive people. and its even worse, cause the old people tend to make people agressive, and the already aggressive, even more agressive. yea, just to much road rage here...

see when we (guys) are mad young like 17 18 ... , we do all stupid shiit until something happens like me for instance i was goin 75 80 in a heavy rain and guess what - tru me off the highway to the side spining around and all i could think was where is the next bridge (there is like 1 every minute on southern state ,or more) i had 4 people in my car we were coming back from a club at 3am , took out a sign no biggie (with my drivers door) then on the way home passed a cop he went after me to 711 asked if i wanna die i said i almost just did he saw it... then let me go (totaled another car 9 days later and a cop cut me off like a month later)
since then well i drove fast a couple of time but nothing never ever dangerous no more 100 something no more slalom between cars and darn slowwwwwwwww in the rain i hate rain
and i drove once 95 in the snow weather in a camaro (man oh man ohio state troopers were pissed)

i was born and raised in poland here in us only for 7 years , let me tell u this when they gonna start making the tests harder there will be much lett accidents and young drivers on the road

by the way the reason they are working on it is that people are pissed b/c 2600 americans died in 41 months in iraq war and guess how many young drivers(16 to 19) died in the same period of time ----------------------------------22000 yes 22k

112 on 128(loud as hell with the windows and roof open)... Its my fathers car, so I very rarely due anything other than accelerate hard. And there were no cars near by... I would never put someone elses life in any danger at all. That was a straight away so I could see I wasn't going towards anyone.

Ill tell another story then, sorta reminding me of what you said. It was 3am, im tired, so is everyone else on the highway. I see 3 cars. One in front in the same lane as me. One picking up tons of speed and was soon to fly by me (on my left). After I saw the car in my side mirror. I looked forward and the car infront of me flew over to the right very sharply. I had a quick glance back in my mirror and looked forward to see a black car (think it was a jeep wrangler) on its side w/ out any lights so I didn’t see it till I was right by it and was doing 80 and by instinct, I jerked over the left. Well, guess who was behind me. This guy was flying going over 100, and jerked far to the right. He recovered. All 3 of us did. But it was a very close call. Thankfully no one was hurt.
Lesson is, don’t drive fast no matter how sure you are. I bet at 110 your car doesn’t have top handling.

It was during the day... No traffic... I shouldn't say no traffic, but I had clear site to anything in range. It was to close one of those huge (at least half a mile) gaps that sometimes comes between groups of cars.

I am 19 years old. I dont have TL yet planing on buying it in December. Now i drive 99 ford taurus that my dad gave me. The highest speed i went was 110 and that was because i was pissed. I was pissed that there was 3 trucks that passed me going 110 in 75 speed limit zone. YES I DID SAY 18 WHEELER TRUCKS. I followed them because i couldnt believe the speed they were going. My dad is a truck driver and i thought top speed of a truck was 85, boy was i wrong. I went 110 1 or 2 miles than slowed down to 85. The trucks kept going 110. I drive 10 miles to work 5 days a week in 65 speed limit zone going 75 sometimes 80. That is just how it is in Atlanta everyone goes atleas 10 above speed limit and if you go speed limit you will prolly get ran over.

never did anything reckless in my TL. still has less than 1100 miles on it. i dont even think i pushed it pased 80mph yet. as i get up there in mileage, i guess ill start to drive a little faster but nothing to serious. this is my first car that im paying for and i want to keep it in perfect condition when i pay it off in 3 years so i can trade it in for a 335i.

Im 19 as well and I keep from all my friends influences and the shit that they do, I think its stupid. My life and someone elses life is much more valuable to me then looking at the speedometer and seeing triple digits while swirving through traffic...absolutely DUMB. Its okay though, all these kids that drive like this eventually learn their lesson.....the HARD way

Honestly I would rather swerve through traffic going triple digits than see the majority of traffic on their cell phones.

I have a bike, and would rather have everyone in traffic speeding than having them all on cell phones.

I see ALL THE F$&KING time people going BELOW the speed limit b/c they are too immersed in their conversation that they don't realize they are in the passing lane going 10 below the posted limit.

Changing lanes w/o your signal.. that's also another pet peeve of mine. If I had a gun and I could legally shoot people with it for not signaling.. I WOULD!

Yes I have gone 135+ in my TL but on a bridge where it's 10 miles long at 1 a.m.

Who know what else is ABSOLUTELY DUMB!... 19 year old's who think they know everything and think they are smarter than everyone else . Ignorance is bliss.. isnt it?

This is my rant and my

Just be careful if you come up 400 into the construction zone. I've had 2 friends get nabbed for 70s in the 55 zone and a big fine. I love driving fast in this town, but i never go more than 63 in a construction zone.

If you are 17 years old and have hormones raging through you, why don't you do what every other 17 year old is doing and go get laid? That should relax your driving a bit
