Alright, before you get flamed for not searching, I will help you out.

Here are the facts:

- Injen was the first intake released for the 3rd Gen TL.
- AEM has not been released yet, many speculate it will be released in the spring of 2005. It is rumored to provide more HP than the Injen and no loss in low RPM torque.
- K&N is out, many have had success with it.

Here are some links to help you out (this topic has come up an innumerable amount of times...just being nice instead of a jerk):

I have the K&N CAI, install was easy, gives a nice growl while on the throttle but I didnt notice any performance improvements, i have also added an exhaust system and notice no gains. I put the K&N on because my shop gets them at cost. Unless you have your heart set on a CAI, I dont really think its worth it. The whistle is annoying, ali enterprises and myself are no questioning whether the CAI is worth it. i guess it might just be personal opinion. in any event, good luck with your TL.

Here's something for y'all. I know that the Acura TL literature claims our cars have a CAI from the factory but technically, this just ain't so. Specifically, a cold air intake takes in air for the engine from outside of the engine bay. That means from hood scoops, under the front air dams or valances, from "fake" or removed fog light openings, or from inner front fender wells. Our TLs get their air from none of these locations.. it comes from (get this) the inside of the engine bay.

A tube protrudes from the bottom of the air box to the lower fender well where it is met by the resonator. Then another feeder tube comes out of the other side of the resonator and back up into the engine bay to just in front of the battery where there is a plastic cover over and above it by may 1.5 - 2 inches for rain protection. And that's where the air gets drawn into the engine.

Actually, I think you would achieve more power gains by using a "WAI" intake of the straight shot variety. That is, connect an adaptor to the ribbed flexible coupling which attaches the throttle body to the air box, and connect a high quality cone-style filter to the adaptor. I would strongly recommend the Apexi "Power Intake" filter for this application since I am very familiar with this particular filter. Air entering the engine would have pretty much a straight shot to the throttle body. I suspect better gains to be had from this setup than the CAI Injen or AEM types. Also, I know from experience that you do not lose any low to mid-range torque with this type of after market intake.. at least I didn't with an intake just like this on my former car.

Will I notice any performance difference if I add a cold air intake and nothing else?

I love the sound of a CAI, but does it actually provide more "feel" in the horsepower department, and not just dyno tests? I was considering purchasing one for my last car, a TLS, but after considering cost vs/gains, I decided against it. If someone honestly told me they could actually "feel" the difference, I might change my mind and get one for my '04TL.

To JetJock;

From all that I've read on this site about after-market CAI intakes for the TL.. no, you probably will not notice any real improvement. I just read one a day or two ago about this very topic.

That's why I wrote about using a quality WAI of the short, straight ram tube design with a cone filter. I see more of an increase with this configuration than the other for this car.

well, i just bought the injen cai.... sooo... we'll see how it goes. from what ive heard, i need to remove the entire front peice of the car to access the location of the CAI... so, if i need to do that, i will probably just take it over to my acura dealer, and see what he can do for me... does anyone know for sure if i will need to take anyting off to get it on?

From what I have read this is not really required. You should be able to remove the driver's side wheel and pull the fender liner. This should give you access to any bolts you may need to remove. Sounds to me like a normal CAI istallation. In my past experiences the biggest pain in the ass is removing the baby (resonator). Save your money, do it yourself, and Good Luck!
