Acura sent me a recall notice today.

This is what is...

Product Update: Outside Air Temperature displays --- or intermittent dead battery.

The Navigation System display may continue to draw too much power after the vehicle has been turned off, resulting in the outside air temp. gauge reading three dashes and/or a dead battery.

Call any Authorized Acura Dealer, and make an appointment to have your vehicle updated. The dealer will repair the Navigation monitor.

Just came in the mail this afternoon, I'm not having any problems, but I'll bring it in anyway.

Hope that helps!

Haven't seen that one yet. Can you scan it here please, or give the recall/TSB number.

just performed this on my own vehicle today at work. its not really a recall, but a "product update." takes about an hour to do but not something that is terribly important needing to be done immeidately. only cars with navigation are affected by this

my dealership only became notified of it today even though the date of the bulletin was 03/09/05. my service director just happen to come to me and tell me my name was on their list, i havnt even gotten a letter yet

Got the same recall few days ago, already called the local acura to make appointment. This week, Saturday I am bringing my car into get it fixed. I did experienced --- in the Outside Temp Read, I thought it was weird.

I am not sure why Navi is eating up the Battery after car is shut off but they are fixing for free so I have no complains. Though time is money...

Wasnt the temp display flatlining a big problem a while ago? I remember reading a ton of threads on it. I will have it done during our A1 service(althoug I don't know if it pertains to my car which is only 2 months old)

My '04 (navi) was at the dealer today to have the brake light switch circuitry replaced (was causing the VSA light to come on) and the service manager told me that there was a new (about 1 week old) bulletin to replace something that would fix the temp flatline. It only happened to me once on a very hot (103 degree) day. She said it was a display module component that they would be replacing. I was in a hurry to get back to work and didn't think about asking for a copy of the bulletin. They had not yet received the replacement part, so I have to go back when it gets in.

I haven't received a notice yet, nor have I been called, but sounds like the bulletin affects '04 as well as '05....

I got it yesterday, I'll take it in once my service reminder comes up, I think its due pretty soon since I just passed 8,000 miles in my TL. They said to leave the car a half day so they can fix it. Maybe I can get one of those RL loaners!

Does this affect all 05 TLs or just a subset of VINs?

I thought I read somewhere in this thread, that if the outside temp is 113 degrees the temp display will flatline (3 dashes). I live in Phoenix, I've been seeing dashes all summer.

Had mine done....

I got my notice in the mail yesterday. It was addressed by my service manager last week when I had my A1 service call.

Technically it is not a recall, it is a technical 'upgrade' <his words>.
I was told it was a simple module swap...nothing laborious. Not being a recall, I don't know if it will appear on the Owner's Link (not on mine).

Although I have not had the Temp ----, it was interesting to see it was a cause of battery draining.

For those too lazy to click, this affects all 05 TLs with VINs from:

19UUA6...5A000001 through 19UUA6...5A030286

Phew, I'm safe.. Not in this range... *crosses fingers*

'05 Acura TL Recall

Go the http://www.nhtsa.gov, look for a link to "Recalls". There is a recall for some Acuras for an electrical short, and they replace the entire fuse box. The recall notice # is: 05V132000. I called Acura about mine, gave them the VIN #, and they said mine wasn't under recall. Good luck.

I have the letter sitting right in front of me. In big bold letters on the front of the letter..."IMPORTANT: SAFETY RECALL NOTICE".

Maybe its a recall because of safety issues...ie if you drive out 200 miles into the middle of nowhere...parked and your battery drained dead.

Looking at this - it appears they're not replacing a component - rather they're adding one (a "subcontrol" unit). Strange... Did they forget this part at the factory?

Glad I'm outside the VIN range - looks like you have to let Acura take apart your dash.

Would this count for an 05 TL that was purchased after the recall date? Is there any legal responsibility that they have to have the issue fixed prior to selling the vehicle?? Any way to check?

Well, I just got my recall notice, it is for Navi unit display continuing to draw too much power after vehicle is turned off. Results in outside temperature reading --- and/or a dead battery. What scares me is this:

I was on my way home, stopped for gas, got back in to the car, no heads up display for Trip"A" only "B". (Mind you I had not seen my mail yet.) Also, no telephone Icon for my hand free, however I tried it and it did still work! On my display my miles travelled was all 999999 and had the dashes for the temp. Also it reset my auto temp etc.

So, came home called service, they will call me back, then I see the recall. Oh well, go figure. Will keep you posted on the outcome. Hope we don't have to wait for parts.

OK, update on my recall experience. Took it in at 8:00 this AM, I was the 4th car in line, ALL TL's ALL in for the recall! Picked it up at 3:00 this afternoon. They do have to REMOVE THE CENTER CONSOLE for this update! My dealer did a great job, console is back in and fits great, no rattles as of yet, no scratches or dings. I am happy with the service.

Here is a copy of the Product Update Letter (thank you xelvic, hope you don't mind if I uploaded your picture). Notice it is not a recall but a product update. Posted here for your information.

A recall is usually issued when there is a compelling safety issue. Call it what you want, but this is a product update. You may argue the point that Acura should have known that this problem would occur and fixed it before the consumer got the product, but nothing is perfect in this world and Acura is acknowledging the fact, in writing, that there is a problem and they want to fix it for you.

The letter above clearly states in the paragraph headed What should you do? that the work will be done free of charge.

I work in service of equipment and we provide product enhancements all the time. A recall you might say is purely safety related... But that is just a play on terms. If you paid 2000 bucks for something that does not function, then it is a recall to have it operate properly. Safety or otherwise. Many companies do this all the time. No agrument at all here. Just calling it what it is...

My VIN is not in this range (build date is 07/05), however, my temp displayed --- yesterday and it was not above 113 degrees here in FL. I'll mention it to the dealer and see what they say, however, I'm going to have the service bulletin - product update in hand ready for their answer.

BTW, who cares if it's a "recall" or an "update"? Bottom line, it's a problem that needs to be fixed.

The thing to look for when your temp displays --- is whether you have lost other functionality like rear-window defroster, radio presets, etc. It never gets to 113 degrees here in Austin but my temp displays the dashes sometimes especially if it's been sitting on hot black asphalt for while. If this is the case, you should see it go back down once you start driving.

Thank you all for this thread. My 2004 TL has this problem. I have been getting the three dashes on the outside temp gage, and I had to have my TL jump started two weeks ago. I purchased it one year ago. I know the service letter stated it is for 05 TL's but I will check with my dealer to see if my 04 TL is covered. I'll keep you posted.

I just got mine back last Saturday. I left it there for couple hours while me and my friend took the loaner TSX to Anapolice from NOVA for joy ride. When I receive the car back, I just got ticked off. The center console was removed and there was couple dings and dongs on the center console as well as the surrounding part. The top of the side sill of the center console looks bented, found a part on the floor mat, dings and dongs everywhere around the center console. I am very wanted to say something at that time, but I thought whats the hustle since they are just gonna say, its nothing, we are fixing your car for free so you can expect that. But more I look at the center console, more i get pissed off. What should I do?? I should have left it as if, it looks not bad but I know how it used to look like so I am very disappointed. Is it too late to go back and complain? They can actually say, how do they know if I did the dings and dongs. maybe its too late....advise?

I had my 04 TL done today. I had a faulty "B" Can Module. The tech stated on the paper work, "Installed updated control unit per S/B 05-029." They took my dash apart but put it back together very nicely. No rattles in the dash so far. I suggest if anyone is having this problem with their 04 TL, to take it to the dealership and get it done. All work was performed under warranty.

I'm afraid to check the VIN. Don't like the sound of a recall, or update, no matter how small.
