Rear Spoiler

Ok what is the deal with people putting a big ass spoiler on the back of a Front Wheel Drive car. It the purpose of a spoiler not to create downforce to increase traction? So let me get this straight, You put a big spoiler on the back of a front wheel drive increasing downforce on the back of the car and in turn actually Decreasing the traction on the drive wheels. Am I the only one that thinks 1. This is a stupid idea and 2. Its also damn ugly.

P.S. As far as I have seen this is not an issue for TL drivers but had to get that off my chest as during a drive today I saw several of these idiots.

^^^^ correct. It is also interesting to note that a larger wing will give more downforce, which will then slow the car's top end at (illegal) high speeds. In the dark ages, some Car & Driver writer found that the Lamborghini Countach with the front and rear wings had a much lower top end than the same car without.
Same for goes for wings on every race and stock car that I know of other than the wings that are necessary to keep the car from going airborne (i.e. Daytonas). Lip spoilers work better for top end, at least until just before the cops put the red lights on....

Don't you know??? The wing adds 5 more HP for every inch it is elevated on top of the car!!!!! But the best mod is stickers!!! Each sticker adds 1 HP to the car!

Funny. I thought it was 2 HP. Wishful thinking, I guess.

in the hopes of making this thread insightful, I heard formula 1 cars produce so much downforce that they could drive inverted. lol

The wing for a 3G TL is about looks not functionality... if you are refering to some of the other type cars (civics, integras, etc....) then this belongs somewhere else......

and yes, a F1 car with full wing on could drive upside down with the amount of downforce generated... in theory...

Didn't you ever play GT:2? Rember when you got that Suzuki and played with the stats to make it go 800+mph standing straight up in the air?

This thread delivers.

Yes, for most cars its purely cosmetic. Of course there's nothing wrong with that. In fact some cars just look strange without a spoiler IMHO.

Only thing is, for cosmetic pieces, they actually have to look good. This automaticall kills those shopping cart spoilers a lot of the "importzzz" have.
