Rear plate - protect car?

I just replaced my 30-day tag with my new license plate. I noticed that the plate fits right onto the clear part of the car. I'm worried that, over time, the plate is going to scratch the clear plastic due to vibrations from driving.

Has anyone placed any type of protector between their rear license plate and the surface of the car?

If so, what did you use?

Good point... I'm getting my new plate within a week, and after hearing this I may stand the plate off a little using some 3M one sided adhesive foam tape... It's only a couple mm's thick but should keep the plate off the car a little bit. (Obvisouly the sticky side to the plate, not the car!)

That should work...

I used some thin foam weatherstrip that I put on the back of the plate. Got it at Home Depot.
Welcome, by the way.

It's nice to have a car as good condition as you can have it...even if you cannot see it.

Protection.

I took the thin plastic dealer advertising insert (size of a plate with the dealers name on it), that was put on the car at delivery, and put it behind the license plate to protect the trim panel.

But any sort of foam tape applied to the back of the plate should work equally as well.

I hadn't even thought of that. Since I've had my car for over a year, I'll have to look at how badly the plastic is scratched. Will check if I ever get home from work tonight (it's been a LONG day...)

Here in Sunny AZ (70's today, kids) we only receive a rear plate from the Motor Vehicle Dept.

I used the dealers plastic advertisement as buffer.
