Rear Calipers - Any way to tell diff. between 6MT vs. AT

Is there any way to tell the difference between 6MT and AT rear calipers? A quick search turns up different part numbers and I recall reading on here that the rears on manuals were also by Brembo. But any way to make the distinction looking at the parts?

On some TL-S's I've seen that the rears have been painted black, and this was on a few new TL-S's in the showrooms at different dealerships.

Rears are the same part number all TL MT and TL-S '04 - '08.

There was blurb in one of the Acura Press Release from a few years back that said the rear were Brembo 1-piston calipers. There has been some discussion here whether that was accurate or an error. I don't think anyone really knows.

You are correct. I mis-read the applicable years/models. I'll fix my earlier post.

Here's the marketing blurb (from 2008):

.... On the rear, the Type-S makes use of 11.1-inch (282 mm) diameter solid rotors mated with Brembo single-piston brake calipers. ....

As far as I know, it's the only time it was ever mentioned in Acura literature.

Perhaps this is the reason for the part number variation:

Both manual and automatic transmission TL Type-S models .... Rear brakes are the same 282 mm solid discs as the TL, but the calipers are given a black finish to match the front brake calipers.

It's possible that even if the '04-'06 MT had the regular "plain" rear calipers stock, that when this new item became available for the TL-S, it superceded or replaced the old MT part number.

I really think the rear calipers are essentially the same part in all trims.

I'm not too concerned whether they are brembo or not...I just want to make sure I have matching parts left to right. And also want to make sure that if they are diff. I don't get an unbalanced rear braking perf.

Any one know if the pads are interchangeable between "brembo" and non brembo calipers?

Front pads and rotors are the same for all 6 M/T and 5 A/T TL-S, and the rear pads and rotors are the same for all '04-'08.

I also just had the opportunity to check the PN for the rear pads and they are the same between Type S vs. Non-Type S.

Thanks ya'll.

BTW, I just realized I should have referred to the brakes as Type S vs. Non Type S to avoid confusion. LOL

why, are you being cheap, and only replacing ONE rear caliper? instead of doing them in pairs (why do you think pads come in a set PER axle?)

You asking about caliper, pad or both?

If caliper, no reason to change both calipers if only one is bad.

If pads....if pads are sold as a set, how can I possibly be cheap???? I'm paying for both anyways......

My initial question had to do with making visual distinctions between the S and non-S rear calipers because I wanted to make sure I had the right/matching part for my car.

The question about the pads was possibly a way to make this distinction because if pads are different, it's possible that the pads won't fit into the caliper. That's not the case though since the PN's are the same.

BTW, I am cheap. And what? You act like I asked if I could collect the brake dust from my front wheels and glue it together on a backing plate so I can use it as friction material for the rear. haha.
