Re: Rear Bumper

Don't know. It seems normal to me.

No strong wind blow, so dust is easy to accumulate over the rear bumper.

It's only because of aerodynamics. Air comes from underneath the car (dusty road) and "rolls" behind the bumper. It isn't unique to the TL. If you live in an area where the roads are dirty and sloppy in winter, check out all the cars where you can't even read the license plate due to the muck being thrown up at the back end.

To add to what Hybrid said: If you look under the rear of the car, you will find a piece of molded plastic. This is the rear air diffuser, which is part of the aerodynamic mechanism for the car. It channels air under the car and behind it, and the rear bumper is in the upward trajectory of some of the moved air.

Thats correct...because of the aerodynamics of the car the TL developes a low pressure area in the back of the car. That is why it stays dirty.

it has nothing to do with the car being a Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle

Also the bumper is not slanting away from the car as most cars do. TL rear bumper is parallel to groound and retains most of the dirt I guess.

Bob, could you please be more specific where that piece of molded plastic is? I'm just interested in knowing it. Thanks.

P.S. I'm looking at need4spd's underside pics... cannot identify that stuff.

maybe we need a HAO to push air out the back from the engine!
that would create a positive current that would avoind dust collection...

HAO = opposite of CAI
