Rear A badge removal ?

i wanted to remove my rear A badge so that i could paint it and then put it back on. i have tried taping up around the emblem and painting it but i couldnt get it to come out clean so i wanted to try to remove it entirely and do it.

i searched and could not find a DiY video or thread about how to do this. does anyone know how to do it and what steps to follow to ensure i dont ruin my car and emblem?

The Acura emblem is held on with 2 studs that go through the trunk lid. Take the inside lid lining out and you will see the studs will the caps holding it on. Floss can't get it off because of those studs.

Not with the Acura emblem, it has 2 studs that go through the trunk lid.

Once you get the caps off the studs .. Use floss or fishing line to cut / saw through the adhesive . Once its off the remainder of the adhesive can be rolled off with your thumb and also GooGone if needed. Be careful cuz you can marr the paint if your too rough.

You'll have 2 holes to fill so you'll have to repaint the trunk. If I ever have a reason to repaint the car I'd fill it cause I like the smooth no emblem look but I left just that on and all the other badges off. Plastic scraper/credit cards work on the adhesive as well a heat gun/hair dryer to soften the adhesive. 3M wax/adhesive remover takes it right off.

He's painting the "A" not the trunk.

Op, if it's cold out use a blow drier to warm up the adhesive as well. But like stated before use some fishing line or a credit card.

Credit card is going to scratch the hell out of the paint if you use it to scrape off the left over foam/adhesive . Its also stuck on with a foam double sided tape.

He can use the credit card to lift the emblem up off the trunk. He can even wrap it in cloth or paper towel. It's just another option if he can't get some fishing line. I never suggested using it to get the residual glue off. If he warms it up enough he can probably pull it off with his nail. I did mine in the summer and the sun was on it all day. It just popped right off with little to no residue.

Okay so I remove the trunk liner, then take off the pins on the back of the emblem, and then use either a credit card or fishing line to remove the emblem. Then once I paint the emblem how do I fasten the emblem again

The studs themselves (if not damaged during removal) should be enough to hold it in place. You could get some double sided tape and cut pieces to shape of the emblem, but I think thats overkill.

I've used credit cards and plastic scrapers, both are softer than clear coat, no scratches here. Have you considered Plasti Dip? Then there's no need to remove it.

thank you guys for the info. and yes i used plasti dip the first time i tried to paint it but i couldnt get the tape perfect so i got black on the paint of the car around the emblem and looked sloppy so i peeled it off. you can still see some of the plasti dip around it, another reason why i want to take off the emblem because i cant get rid of that left over paint

How do you remove the studs that hold the emblem in place?

do you just want the emblem black? I know its been said elsewhere on here but I just plastidipped my emblems and they came out really nice. if you don't know about it here is a video of someone applying it to a tsx.

You don't need to mask close or exact. You peel off what you don't want on the paint and it goes perfectly on the line. I would mask the whole bumper to protect from over spray. Even though it cleans up pretty easily if you roll it off the paint or use goo gone.

the quality is actually a lot better than I expected. If you wanted glossy, they sell a glossifier to add the clear coat shine.
