Really? Premium gas.. only?

Drove my MBenz for 10 years and always followed the Mfg's advice, use 91 or better octane gas. Anyone out there feel I need the same for my 07 TL-S?
Would occasional tank of mid grade kill my engine?

High compression motors love high octane... question has been asked a million times. My general rule of thumb for myself is 9.5:1 or less CR = low grade, 9.5-10.5 = mid grade, 10.5+ = premium. My Accord and CL with 8.8:1 both loved regular.
If you did it with your previous car for ten years, why is this a problem now?
If anything, I'd start putting higher-grade gasoline into any car. Around these parts, 87 is now 10% ethanol.

I can understand your frustration if you bought a Chevy Malibu and were upset that it took premium gas only, but its an Acura TL. Luxury sports sedan- gotta pay the price to play sometimes.
Maybe I'm just crazy (well I know I am) but I can notice a difference between 91 octane and 93 when I'm driving it pretty hard. So...BP...errr...Shell FTW.

also it seems as if the car loves shells premium (V-power) gas i can get premium from exxon or any other gas station an nothing but i put that V-Power in there an i swear its more peppy

I don't understand how ppl have the guts of asking if it is necessary to run premium gas on their TLs!!!!!!!! These ppl shouldn't be driving acuras or anything like it. Regular gas WILL have a very noticeable performance drop in your TL just like using cheap gasoline from shity gas stations. I only use shell n sometimes sunoco gasoline n only fill up with the highest grade available at that gas station. There was a time where I couldn't find a shell or sunoco around n I was running out of gas. My only option was to get some has at getgo. So I only put $5 worth of their 91 octane n DAMN my car ran like shit! It almost felt like my intake was clogged n no air could get through. Same thing happen after using BP n speedway gasoline. My point is that if you have the money to afford a TL then you shouldn't complain or even ask if you should only use premium gas. DON'T GO CHEAP ON A QUALITY CAR LIKE THIS!!!!

it's not because we are a luxury brand, it is because the engine compression rate is high. like a race car. 11:1
you really have to understand why it takes 91+octane. Learn about the engine. Learn about Gas octanes. What does a higher octane mean? What does having a compression rate of 11:1 mean?
Answer these questions, and you'll understand why we need 91+

With all the threads available indicating the wise choice of premium, plus it's the manufacturer's recommendation, so if he wants to use the regular, so be it, use the 87. Time will be the judge, then he can tell us the results.
ya i have no problem with premium its not that much more. you'll pay like an extra buck or two. by me its like .10 more so figure if buy 15gallons cost me and extra buck fifty not a wallet breaker.
Sure why not? Comon people, its not like the engine is going to blow to smithereens. While you're at it though, you could also save money by drinking natty light and tap water instead of bottled and save more money. 1 bottle of water is equal to like what? $10 a gallon?
OP...Use Premium...it is REQUIRED, not RECOMMENDED. If it were just recommended, then I would just be using Regular....difference in performance wouldn't even be noticed. But the TL (especially TL-S) will ping horrendously, sometimes even with Premium...check it out it's well documented here.
I don't know where most of you buy gas, but up here the difference between a tank of Regular versus Premium is $8 -$9...over the course of a year of fill ups that's $500+...I wouldn't care if it's a difference of a buck, I'd rather have that cash in my pocket than Shell's if there were no detriment to using just Regular.

85 is $2.71
87 is $2.81
