Cool Reached 155

I was able to get my 6MT to 156 on I 5 from SF to LA over the holiday. I'm not sure if it would go faste but I was pulling back as cars were approaching too fast. Don't remember the rpm but it has up there. The car was completely solid and no vibration etc. I must have worked out the flat spots in the EL 42's.

It wasnt too many years ago when only exotics could hit over 140, then exotic sedans (say M5) now, just about everyone is doing it.

Ever wondered why we have flat spots? It is because the tires are speed rated to 168mph continuous, that is why.

Congrats, you need an oval or something to keep that speed up.

Well according to the C&D Mag:

At 152 MPH (governor limited) in 6th your pulling 5250RPM. 5th should be 6650 @ that same speed.

It's not donwhill, right? Amazing, it's incredible top speed.

If we talk about 5AT at 156 MPH, I think it should be 4500-4600 RPM.

Or perhaps (and more likely) speedometer error.

Everything has a tolerance, even the human eye reading the speedo, if you are off angle, it can mean a mile or two or three...

Then you'd be wrong. At least according to the C&D Mag which has it limited @ 152. Who knows if they are right or not. They claim 0-60 in 5.7 whil Motorweek (TV Show) was only able to get 6.2. C&D claims 189FT in 70 TO 0 braking, while the show got it in like 115 feet. Must take this figures with a grain of salt I guess.

The last two Acuras I've owned had speedos that read about 2-3 MPH faster than the car was actually going according to my Garmin GPS.

But the Honda I recent bought is dead nuts on with the GPS.

Its no secret that speedometers can be quite inaccurate at high speeds.

Our cars use to be limited to 149mph because our tires were rated up to 149mph.....in fact I have gone faster than that

This is a digital picture from a paper photo.

We hit 158mph this is on my 4spd 99 TL. It was 4k feet altitude (thanks to navi) and about 40 degree's F.

I don't know what is the rating on the 04 stock tires, probably the same.

This is a legal issue for safety in someway at least tires.

From what I learned, Speedometers are supposed to be dead on at exactly half their max speed, so in our case, right at 80. then up to I think it was possibly up to 10% off the further away you go.

Bitium,

Are you still in Germany? Where is your TL? Here or there? I just wonder if you have tried TL in German Freeway. My dream. It should have lots of fun to drive out there.

Thanks.

Bitium,

The 04TL stocks and HPT tires are W rated (168), so that takes car of the mis-matched ratings.

Since everyone else is posting theirs, i thought I would post mine as well. If you can't read it too well, that is about 152 mph

Quick question, are we allowed images in our sigs???

Doesn't the Navi have your current instantaneous MPH? I would think that the Navi would be a lot more accurate than the speedo, regardless of your displays, tires, and other variables.
