re-install rear lip spiler?
hey guys
i just installed the rear lip spolier amd im not really too happy. the ends are not completely flush with the trunk. like the 3M tape isnt sticking to the trunk properly.
i was wondering is it is possible to reinstall the lip? would i have to apply a new layer of 3M tape? if i decide to have it professonally done (dealer) how much would you think it cost?
thanks
danny

Danny is you TL out of warranty? I had mine reinstalled at no cost (around 26,000 miles). I had the same problem you have.

I've had to re-install a couple of spoilers already at the shop. It's a pain in the ass to remove the double side tape but it can be done. I use dental floss or fishing tackle to seperate the decklid from the trunk. Use an adhesive remover to take off the double side tape off the decklid and trunk. Than being the install process all over again.

Wipe down both the trunk lid where the tape will stick with isopropyl alcohol as well as the underside of the spoiler where your are putting the new tape
I was unable to see the pictures danny04TL, but from your description it definitely sounds like the decklid and/or spoiler surface was not prepped properly prior to the two sided tape application/installation.
I would remove as others have suggested then carefully and methodically clean all two sided tape residue from trunk lid and spoiler. Probably involve some patients and Goo-gone and other adhesive removing products.
Now for proper prep...
Isopropyl alcohol isn't what I would use.. Many do yet with poor results. Go down to an automotive paint supplier and pick up a quart etc. of a product known as "PreCleano".. Their are other brands and that's OK, but you want a "wax and silicone" remover. This is the product used by body shops to wipe down a surface prior to painting or performing applications like yours etc.. I have no idea how many feet of 3M tape I have used over the years but have yet to have a failure with this process/product.
You will want two rags for application. One two liberally apply and wipe/rub the product over the applicable areas, the other clean/dry rag to completely wipe the product off until the surface is dry. I normally perform this process twice. After that, do not touch either surface with anything other than the tape you're applying..
As for the cost of your dealer performing the R & R... They would probably charge you near an hour for removal and cleanup as well as whatever the normal install time/rate would be (less time given the trunk does not require drilling etc. with an aftermarket spoiler if applicable. If it has been drilled they will still charge for removal of the trim inside the lid to gain access to the spoiler bolts/nuts etc..).
I would guess between $140 and $180 Dealer labor.
Good luck
