Did you get any information from the dealer on the repair manifest stating what was wrong with the back panel? I'm taking my car in on Tuesday and I want to be prepared to give them as much information as I can about the buzzing.

Did yours occur only during music play or could you hear it during normal driving?

Took the car in to fix a moonroof rattle ....

After 2 days at the dealer, they finally determined that one of 3 clips that secure the headliner to the rear portion of the moonroof / sunroof was not properly attached! They fixed the clip, and voila my moonroof rattle was resolved without having to get out the felt!

However, they also figured out that my car has the infamous rattle in the maplight overhead, so that will require another visit at somepoint in the future

Oh well! Eventually, I'll have a rattle free car.

I took it in to the dealer and they told me it was due to the bad design of the third seat belt. They said due to its singular bolt, it was shaking and vibrating, so they had to insulate that area as well as they could. And because it's a design flaw, the head tech told me that every TL will have that problem at one point or another!

Regardless, that would make sense why you could reproduce the sound by moving the seatbelt. Hey, pound your rear deck -- what sort of sound do you get? Is it a solid sound (like pounding on wood) or a hollow, reverby sound?

It's kind of hollow, I think -- I'll check next time I get in the car. And now I've developed ANOTHER rattle (just started yesterday on the way back from skiing). It's to the left of the steering wheel and is pretty loud when going over bumps. After a loong, long time, I found that it was coming just left of the steering column from the plastic surrounding the gauges. I can reproduce the rattle by banging on the dash just under the brightness controls. If I press hard on the upper left portion of the plastic around the gauges, the rattle goes away. I think yet another bolt or clip may have loosened. Maybe the firm suspension along with all the potholes here is the culprit...

And I mispoke (or miswrote) before. Moving the middle rear seatbelt (not the rear passenger one) reproduced my rattle. So, I bet my rear deck rattle was caused by the same defect (I hope they insulated mine as well and didn't just tighten it up a bit).

Thanks, I would appreciate you checking for me.

I think you're right about the firm suspension and the clips that are used -- the more I drive over these potholed and bumpy roads, the more I find these rattles. How annoying! Further, Alameda County must be strapped for cash or something because their roads are the worst I've seen in Northern California.

Anyway, they've got my car until Friday so they can install the new steering column. I'm going to request from my service advisor that they hold the old parts so I can inspect them and figure out exactly what they did.

Sorry to interrupt you guys here. Mine has low and hollow-like sound, which is not a terribly reverberant or empty sound as you tap the box. But it's definitely not as solid as you knock the wood.

I think it's better than I thought.

Oh, you're not interrupting at all. Thanks for your contribution. I'm not sure what I'm hearing when I pound on the rear deck.. maybe the area under the trunk is causing that noise.

Anybody having rattles on front dash somewhere. Around driver's side vent (not sure about passenger's side as I haven't sat in the passenger side yet), or instrument pod somewhere. It's very faint, but I'm very sensitive to noises. I hate being picky...

dtchung,
I have the same problem you have, get a raddling when you move slowly from a stop. I think its coming from the center vent assembly. If anyone has had this same problem and had it fixed love to know what the solutution was.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It's especially apparent when I'm taking off and my RPM range is around 1000 - 1500. I have 6 MT and try to keep the RPM at round 1500 and 1800.

The rattle that I was decribing earlier seems to be coming from the left side vent and the steering column. It's worse when I'm driving on rough freeway. Oh, the pain of wanting perfect brand new car...

Whoa, I thought that was just me, feeling the rattle when you are slowly accelerating! Except I could have sworn this is also coming from the steering column and not the vent. I'll have to check when I pick up the car from Oakland tomorrow.

About vibration w/ the tires seems to be happening in colder climate states. We live in CA, so consider ourselves lucky. From what I read, it seems to be the tire's fault. I have HPT on mine, and haven't expericed any vibration @ any speed yet. Knock on wood...

I know for sure my dash speaker (drivers side) is rattling. It occurs when driving on 'washboard' bumps. When I press on it with my fingers, it disappears. I'd like to take a stab at fixing it myself, but I have no idea how to get to it. I suspect the passenger side is also rattling.

BTW, my glove box rattles too. The dealer said they fixed it... NOT. I took the whole thing apart, put it all together again - no effect whatsoever.

One thing is for sure - rattles are hard to find in the TL. I think I know where the sound is coming from, move my head closer, and the sound moves somewhere else! The acoustics inside the cockpit are very interesting...

It seems like all TL's are suffering from this problem I hope Acura resolves this problem. Hmm...If they do, will we get the fix as well?

I had the same thing and found out what it is. The speaker clips up into the grill that sits in the dash. For some reason it doesn't fit in securely enough to keep the speaker from shifting, thus causing the rattles. You can get the speaker/grill out by using a flat head screwdriver between the grill and dash and pry it up then disconnect the speaker wire. I popped the speaker out, placed a few pieces of felt around, popped the speaker back in, and now it's in there nice a tight. No more rattle!
