Rattles are like Virus. They can be contained or controlled but impossible to eliminate. Good luck though!

rattles are populating my interior.

-air vent
-console
-tweeter
-glove box
-"A" pillar

too many hard plastic clip-on interior parts. my 2003 3.2 TL's dash pad seemed like it was one huge assembly perfectly flushed into the firewall.

This car has been overly "decontented"

"A" pillar is.....

The part that slopes up from the hood to the top of the windsheid...if you close your door it would be where the side mirror is

My only rattle is the little compartment under the radio....which if i just leave it open, it stops.
The other is the stupid sunglass holder on the passenger side.
6000 miles here

Rattle in Passenger Door

For those of you that complain about a rattle in the passenger door. I found that the panel that holds the speaker cover rattles when the car is cold. The rattle would stop after putting pressure on the door panel or rolling the window down.

To be more specific....There is a joint between the speaker cover and door panel. The rattle is right in that area. The dealer had it fixed in a jiff.

I don't typically post messages, but since rattles bug me I thought I would post one. Hope this helps

I had a ton of rattles as well and pretty much all of the ones you listed, except for the glove box. I took my car in to the dealership, they won't do rattle fixing on weekends, last week and they muffled a lot of them. However I have one rattle, actually more like a squeaking noise coming from my driver side door that is driving me NUTS! Has anyone had this one fixed?

Oh and regarding the passenger side, try pulling open the map pocket to the first detent and see if that eliminates it.

I have this too, as well as the A-pillar squeak. I will be taking my car to the dealer next month for the 15-16k mile check up and oil change and I'll have them look at the noises then. I have had several rattles, squeaks, etc in the past and they have pretty much been eliminated.

I have the similar rattle, but they come from the top of door frame and the triangle plastic/rubber near the side mirror... I guess dealers may install some insulation or felts to stop both...

If it is within the A-pillar, the interior trim piece comes off quite easy. Not much there to rattle other than a wiring harness. Just pry up/out the "ABS" square tab towards the top of the pillar. This will release the trim piece.

Well, I hate to do that because the sound is so low it may actually be coming from the left vent. It's under warranty and my dealer is really good. I will have them mess with it. Thanks anyway.

Are you talking about this???

I did check the same area and worked with it, then still have the annoying rattle from this area. After trying everywhere (grills, vents, speakers, panel, etc.), pressing everywhere, insulate padding into all the possible abutments, I finally pinpoint it.

I'm not sure if it's that black triangle plastic or the rubber between that plastic and the driver side window. Once I press on that area, all my rattle on the left side of steering wheel is GONE. In fact, I don't have this rattle/noise all the time, but it's annoying when it happens. If pressing on the black triangle plastic cannot work, I'll twist or bend that rubber, then the rattle/noise will go away.

You see that rubber between window and vanity... that's the cause on my car.

Well, I call it "rattle of driver's vanity mirror cover".

I may ask my dealer to change something over that triangle area and make this rattle stop.

Actually, I just drove home from work a did a couple of tests. Turns out, the noise is coming from two plastic pieces rubbing together where the top of the door panel meets the vent. I put some Kleenex in that gap and no more noise. The two pieces seem to be bowed a bit and I'm not sure that can be fixed.

Like I tell people...ALL cars have problems, they just don't all have the SAME problems. I work with people that have Bimmers and Lexuses and they have their share just like the TL. Of course, they don't rattle. For example, I have one friend that had an '01 740i that was beautiful...until his electrical system went out on him. He also went through two batteries in two years!

I can live with rattles for a while and get them fixed...no biggie. Major mechanical problems are a different story, that is why I got rid of my '01 CL-S and its POS tranny. I love my '04 TL...even though the rattles do annoy me from time to time.

taking delivery tomorrow
during the test drive i heard a barely noticable buzzing sound coming from the back of the headliner (the area around the top braking light)

other than that the car drove and shifted smoother than the demo and i liked it better

my question is
did any of you have that buzzing in the headliner and is so did it get worse with time?
also if you had it and found the fix what was it?

thanks!

Mine must have been built on a really good day. No rattles, squeaks, or other flaws to speak of...

Eight months, 3,300 miles of motoring bliss and counting...

2004 TL with 26,000 miles and more rattles then I can kill, although I have killed mannnnnyyyyyyyyyyy. I admit I hate them and it will influence my next car purchase. Only other complaint I have is how easily the front end chips. Clear bra for me next time.

I guess I'm lucky..I'm on my 3rd TL...the '04 being my current car. I only had 1 rattle in those 3 cars....the 2002TLS..which I easily fixed with a piece of felt between the dash and frame on the right side near the "A" frame. My '04 has no rattles or squeaks....3900miles so far. I don't drive it that often so mabe that's the reason...but I'm 100% satesfied so far.
Mabe infrequent driving doesn't allow the rattles to develop..I dunno???

I just went in for my first oil change at 4200 miles. I brought a list of items that I wanted them to fix..including my rattles and my EL42 tires. He told me there's a recall on the HOMELINK thing for my car (I don't even use it), so he scheduled me for March 3rd and they are going to give me a loaner TL and he said that he'll try to fix my rattles and other problems, but regarding my tires. He said that the only thing they can do is check the tread, and if I want them to replace them, I would have to go to the manufacturer. My ONLY problem with the tires is that the road slips so often..and my wheel jerks whenever the tires slip on the road. Who should I be contacting? When I went to the firestone dealer, he said he would only give me back very little credit per tire so i didn't want to do it. Maybe I should take all the negative comments on tirerack.com from TL owners who are pissed off about the tires..and show him that I'm not the only one cause the manager told me that the people love the EL42's...

Overall, my visit to Acura of Glendale was pleasant..took about..2 hours for a damn oil change and them to realize that they didn't have the part for the recall and i guess they left a mess in my car.....but I can always clean that up on my own when it stops raining...but the service guy was nice..

The center compartment rattle is the easiest one to fix. All you need to do is go to Home Depot and pick up some rubber or felt stickies, (the ones used to keep objects from sliding on flat surfaces), stick a few of them together and jam it in between the two compartments. You will need to have both doors opened. Reaching in from the bottom compartment with your hand, jam the rubber/felt pieces in between the compartments as far as it will go. This will prevent the compartments from rattling against each other. Problem solved.

Mine was rattling constantly with or without the doors opened. This was around 700 miles, I now have 4500 miles and haven't heard a sound ever since. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I've owned 4 Acura's. '02 TL, '03 Type S, '04 TL. My '04 had so many rattles, I traded it for an 05 RL. I had the '04 for 4 months, put 12,000 miles on it and had most of the rattles described on this board. I don't regret getting rid of the rattel trap at all. My 02 and 03 models were solid as a rock, not a single rattle. I am glad to be rid of the rattles. So far, not a single solitary rattle in my RL.....
