For me, it depends on what you're working on. Changing oil or similar.....ramps, just quicker. Doing more involved work like j-pipe or exhaust.....jack stands because you can get more height.

Stands. You can't take the wheels off with ramps.

Might've been, but I swear it derailed into a ramps vs. stands discussion .

You can't rotate the tires with ramps; you can do everything with stands .

I personally have both....rarely use the jack stands anymore. But there is a use for em at times. I find jackstands to be a bitch in comparison to ramps given a choice. But some tasks dont call for ramps....as Chill_Dog points out above!

Never tried ramps... I'll go with the floorjack and the stands.

I think the post you guys were referring to was my post on the best floor jack (maybe?). I going to go with snapon btw... hehe.

very true but for a simple tire rotation a floor jack and a couple 4x4's as a 'just in case' will suffice just fine...one side at a time that is.

Stands & a Hydraulic jack. There's even a cool electric jack that runs off your 12V outlet which runs a motor on a turn screw.. pretty hand in-the-car jack.

I have both. I rarely use the ramps. Much quicker to jack up the car and slide a couple of stands under.

Not if you have an air-assisted hydraulic floor jack
