Cool Rain Sensing Wipers??

Hey guys. I love this board, I seem to be getting addicted and have a new wish for my 2006 TL.

I have had my car for almost a year now and LOVE it...except I miss the rain sensing wipers I had in my last two Lincoln LS'. I have been looking at the Rain Tracker aftermarket add on for this and it looks very doable. Has anyone added these to their 3rd gen TL? Is it as hard at the manufacturer says it is? Do I keep my exsiting wiper control arm on the steering column? Any feedback or help on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Bill

I deleted the thread you posted in the Frequently Asked Questions forum on this topic. Please click here to read the announcement at the top of the FAQ Forum for more information.

And I'm moving this to 3G TL, since it is more applicable to that forum and you will get more answers there.

Very easy installation

I installed the RainTracker system in my 2004 TL. The installation is actually quite simple. You tap into the wiper motor wires, located under the hood,to the right, in a black wrap, near the wipers. Then run the wires through the firewall (easily penetrated with a coat hanger) to the control unit. Then remove the trip from the driver's side A piller and mount the sensor to the windshield. Finally mount an on/off switch somewhere. The exisiting wiper control switch continues to work. The RainTracker works extremely well. It is very convenient to drive when it is raining and not have to worry about adjusting the wiper speed.

Finally got my rain sensor installed and working right.

Great advice Shalerbud. I still needed a little detailed help though. So I asked an Auto Electrician friend of mine and he was able to connect it the right way after I fried one of the RainTrackers. Below are the links to the YouTube videos I made. The way we hooked it up didn't involve the CAM connection and it works with the wipers in the off position. This way i don't leave it on all the time. My switch is mounted in the blank panel next to the mirror controls and the VSA button. I hope this helps others.

Interesting... Can you name all the features that your chevy has that the TL doesn't?

Cool mod, but seems to keep the wipers on too long after the rain has stopped and the windshield is wiped.

Damn that's very cool

I don't think using the windshield wipers is hard enough to warrant the installation of that system though
