Raced A Chopper

I was driving about 20 mph through the EZ Pass toll lane and there was a man in his 50s riding a custom looking Chopper in the right lane next to me. I wasn't ;looking to race anyone and I always take off fast after the tolls, but when I floored it I look to my right and the chopper did too. So I figured why not? He stayed on my door the whole time...he really had that bike opened up too I could see him shifting hard. When I realized I was going 95 mph I let off. He was about on my quarter panel by then and I slowed down to about 75. He was too embarassed to pass me then. Just thought I'd share.

Not impressed, you started to feel like a parachute at 70mph+ on those bikes.

Haha, thanks. I know it is sad and I am aware my car isn't that fast but I was just surprised at the outcome!

Ha, ha...

Classic loud-motorcycle.

I hate those loud things. Guys ride them around making noise. "Baaaaaa, baaaaa, baaaaaaaa". Acting bad-ass. They rely on the intimation factor.

If challenged, then the truth becomes known.

I raced one recently in my wife's 2003 Acura RL (30-60 mph)..... with the wife in the car. She was like to me. "What are you doing? Why you going so fast?"

I then explained to her about the loud motorcycle next to us acting all macho and how we just beat him. The wife was then like "oh, ok" :gheylaugh and then she resume what she was talking about beforehand.

NOTE - This is not meant to take anything away from the OP. Many of the loud bikes are in the low 14's and mid 13's based on my street experiences. I just got lucky racing that slower bike in the RL.

True. But in my expereinces with racing several of them, the louder the motorcycle is, usually the slower it is.

but there are always exceptions

Most Japanese motorcycles are muuuch faster than cars. It is those loud thumper ones that are usually all bark and no bite.

Only if you drive a car that runs in the mid 13's. My car is in the low 13's and I have yet to have a loud thumper beat me.

Can't say if they were HD or not. All I know is that they were loud and a thumper.

Yep, they vary greatly. I've held with one in the TL and I've had one give me an ok run in the GN.

Most of the Harley guys around here know their bikes aren't fast. It's the crotch rocket guys you have to watch out for. I hate to say it this way but I s**t on an R6 about a year ago but he had it coming so bad and the series of events could not have been more perfect. I was on an R6 streak. I don't know if this bike was just super popular during 2008 or what it was but it seemed like every other bike was an R6. Anyway, I won't bore anyone with the details but long story short super cocky rider gets beat repeatedly and badly by an old car. Some of those guys just don't get it. You can beat them in person, you can show them videos, but the bike crowd has more excuses than any other crowd.

Here goes the rant so read at your discretion. I can predict them so bad that I set up a co-worker who races bikes. He's always talking about his race bike. A co-worker wanted to see a GN so of course I pulled up a video of a GN vs a 750 crotch rocket on the street. I told said co-worker that when the bike guy sees it his first excuse will be the bike didn't know how to launch and second will be he wasn't trying hard. Sure enough, he said exactly that and we were both laughing.

I even had a guy on mtbr.com that supposedly has a Hyabusa talk some incredible crap about my car. I finally had enough and called him out for a race. He most likely would've beat me if he had a heartbeat lol but having an ego the size of Texas he backed out with lame excuses, doing his best to make it look like I wasn't worth his time.

I've learned to not get into a conversation with a bike guy unless my car and his bike are there to back up any talk. Otherwise I get frustrated.

Some Harleys, stock TL. I can take up to a 750 crotch rocket and some of the old liter bikes in the GN but the new liter bikes leave me like I'm standing still. So I guess roughly 600whp and a lot of torque with traction will put you in the same league as a 750.

I understand some of the cocky riders think that they are faster than cars when they sit on the the bike, especially those 600cc guys. First of all, 600cc street bikes are faster than most of the affordable stock cars and the ones that has 600cc bikes are usually amateurs and they don't know that there are plenty of cars that can eat the 600cc or even 750cc. For the R6, its not meant for drag, quick of the line and very well for the track and newbies' affordable.

It will take a lot to play with those crotch rockets (roll racing). Like "I Hate Cars" said, but then that's only for the 600-700cc. For the 1000cc, with my pass experiences your car at least beats the modded non FI last gen M3, modded G37, modded NSX, IS300 turbo, somewhat modded Viper (not new ones), stage3 B5 S4 or sum it up, if your can can make 180mph w/o a sweat. And yeah, the person rides the bike makes dif. too, a skinny guy or a big fat boy with the aerodynamic of a pig with less power to weight ratio haha. Let alone the rider who knows his bike well.

You have to really know bikes to figure what's what at a quick glance. I can tell you that most truly "custom" built choppers are deep into the 12's or even 11's or better, depending on the compression. $ is not an issue when having a custom bike built, so most guys will opt for at least a 113" S&S engine, but usually go for the 124 or 131". It doesn't cost much to get serious power out of these engines.

Most of the bigger japanese cruisers are in the mid 12's (1800VTX, 1670 Yamaha Warrior, Vulcan 2000, M109R is high 11's) You can launch them so hard without worrying about wheelies that the sixty foot times are in the mid 1 second range. These bikes will only trap around 105-110 though. Yamaha V-Max is a mid 11 @ 115mph bike all day.

Stay away from all of the above in the TL.

The mid sized Japanese cruisers and most stock Harleys will generally be somewhere in the 13's @ ~ 100mph, so proceed with caution. Anything can happen, but you'll still get raped out of the hole. Forget about the Harley V-Rod. That's another mid 11 second @ 115 bike. Many are modded and in the 10's. Also remember that most Harleys are modded to some degree since engine kits are very cost effective. My friend has a Softail Night Train with a 124" that runs 10's. It pulls so hard down low you can't keep your feet on the forward controls for a full throttle 1-2 shift. Probably needs an air-shifter.

Smaller (sub 1000 cc) Japanese cruisers are pigs, mid 14 seconds and slower, but most of these guys aren't into racing anyway, so it's a moot point.
