I had an encounter with 2.5 this weekend.

I was going groceries with 2 people in the car(mom and dad). Then I saw a fast moving object in my rearview mirror. My first impression was it doesn't look like any high performance car (Eg:corvette).

By the time he passed me, I realized it's Altima 2.5S. I could hear engine is sucking it hard. This guy is doing about 45MPH on 30MPH road. Considering overall traffic, that's obvious speeding and guy was cutting in front of everyone.

I was about to merge into 40MPH road and was couple of cars behind him. I couldn't catch up because of traffic and other cars. It took me about a mile of ramp and merging lanes to catch up.

Thankfully this dude driving 4-banger is still heading same direction with mine. When I got behind him after a ramp(I kept in SS 2nd), I floored as he was merging. I caught up to him and made about 2 to 3 car length and terminated. This kid didn't wanna play game anymore.

Either it actually was a turbo, or you forgot to drop off your boat trailer at the storage place and ended up racing with it.

Sorry to bring back on old thread but.....
That turbo kit wont help the 2.5 beat the 3.5 much.
There is a guy with it and he still didnt beat an SE-R.
Ummm, and about an altima not running in the 14's stock, you can go to nissanclub.com for proof. There are guys running low 14's even with auto.
I actually ran a cl-s (I think 2003 or something newer) at the track. He had every comptech bolt-on minus forced induction and he was only running 14.2 - 14.4 to my 14.0
And my times were with some traction issues and not nearly as many mods. So, im sorry...but nobody should be talking about how easy it is to be kicking the 3.5 ass. Sorry, try again.

My car is a 2005 Altima 3.5 5MT

Have a nice day everyone.

i think you're referring to the member "sheermax", i'm not sure if he was talking about the 3.5 altima not running 14s or the one with the smaller engine (if there is one). i would imagine that if the guy has a turbo'd 2.5 and he's not pulling on the 3.5 then he just needs to go back and up that boost.

i had a couple run-ins on the way to work with a gentleman who owns a 3.5 maxima (not in this post though). come to find out my intake had been broken for about 2 months and that's why my car was running so slow and it seems as if it was the cause for my erratic shifting in SS mode, but with the icebox on now i'm quite confident i would stay side by side with the 3.5 max seeing as i was hitting my powerband right about the time he was in front of me. haven't seen him in a few months though seeing as i've been leaving an hour earlier for work. i think he lives nearby though. i'm sure i'll catch him at the gas station or deli or something.

enjoy the altima.

The 2.5 def. isnt even close to 14's.
That car stock is probably around a 17 second car and mods dont really help it.
Friend of mine had almost every bolt-on for the 2.5 motor and he was only pulling around 140whp and couldnt even break into the 15's.
That guy with the turbo altima came close, but just couldnt beat the 3.5
I think it was just a waste of time to try to turbo that motor anyway, its a piece of shit compared to the vq. The 2006 QR motors are now known to burn lots of oil and catch fire.
And, the 3.5 max is slightly slower stock for stock compared to an altima because of the weight difference.

Since I have a VQ35 max, I don't really know much about the QR25 motor, other than it also powers the Sentra SE-R and SPEC V. But once I saw the dudes dyno numbers("270whp, and 259trq") I figured it would pull a STOCK 3.5(AT or MT) with ease. And as for your friend, did he do a baseline by any chance? Because 140 WHP for a fully bolt-on sounds extremely low, I would think the 140 whp is a decent stock figure for QR25 motor. Anyway, I'm happy with my VQ35.

that's got to be one of the most disappointing things about nissan i've ever heard. not even 140whp with all the bolt ons? hell, my 2.2L 1988 Chrysler Lebaron turbocoupe was pushing 140-150whp at stock boost with no other mods. i know i know, old crappy car by todays standards, but was a nice ride in 1997 when i bought it.

and the QR motors burn oil and catch fire? holy jesus. i'm glad my only problem is the transmission. at least i can replace that. i guess the motto is to buy upper end nissan or don't buy nissan at all.

i was looking at a jet-black 2005 maxima last night. looks nice, just wish the trunk wasn't so short.

Nah, he didnt do a baseline. He was pissed with the results.
He is now selling it and looking into getting an EVO.
I originally got a 2005 2.5s and traded it after 8 months because I just couldnt stand the lack of power in the car. I also heard such bad things about the QR motor.
I like maxima's too, just not the 6th gen body style as much. The 5.5 gen is the best so far I would have to say.
Most of my friends drive 4th gen. maximas.
Some guys are taking the 3.5 and swapping into the 95-99's because they are lighter weight cars.
