Quick question: buying 04 ac tl

I am interested in buying a 2004 acura tl in may. I was wondering what are some things I should look for when test driving it? For example signs of a tranny going on these cars... It will have 40-50k on it when I buy it..

call acura with the VIN number of any car you really like and tell them you are looking to buy- would they look up the history- recalls- extended warranties, anything they can tell you about how many owners of what states the car has lived in etc.
call 1-800 382 2238 x5 6aqm to 5 pm pacific time

Owning a gen2 with 109k warranty on trans, and with trans number 3 about to go in at 80k,
I would not buy a gen3 without an extended warranty policy. You can get them from some acura dealers here on azine for a decent price-1200-1500 to cover anything and everything would be good deal

Smell the fluid- is it burned? that would be bad.
Go 25 35 and 45 at light throttle and stomp the gas full throttle
Does it downshift positivly down to a low gear and accellerate, or run the rpm up 500 but does not go forward faster... clutch slippage ?

Since you are looking ahead- take the time to read al the Gen3 threads and see common problems to watch for.
Go to a few dealers and do a test drive. Ask the salesman about the transmissions just to test their knowledge versus bs factor. Get familiar with what a good TL feels like and what a bad crash damaged one feels like.
Look all over these test cars- how the panels fit, what gets corroded or stays clean.
Happy Hunting

You can start a thread in Car Talk if you would like an unbiased comparison between the G35 and the TL. We don't do car comparisons in this part of the forum. Here's the link to Car Talk: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/

Also, have you looked in the 3G Garage in regards to the info your asking about? There's alot of good stuff there. Good luck.

If you are buying the car from a dealer make sure that the dealer fixes the bumpstop/excessive tire wear problem and puts in a new bluetooth module before you buy the car. Both are TSB issues so the dealer should have no reason not to do it.
