Quick question broke something maybe?

I have an 07 type s. Today i bumped into the little trunk latch while pulling some stuff out and a little spring-type end kinda fell down from inside the latch. It has a hook on the hanging end and is still fastened to the other end.

Does anyone what this spring does and if it is necessary? i tried reconnecting it to something but its too hard because it's such a small area. Any recommmendations on reconnecting it or ideas of this spring's purpose? Is it something put in during delivery that is unnecessary now?
Thanks for your help.

which latch exatly? the one on the deck itself on the inside or the area where the licesnece plate is? My rought idea is that it might be for the rear-view camera.

its on the inside, its in the part that hooks onto the metal hook on the bottom lip of the trunk. I checked the camera's stability and it works fine. as i was shutting the trunk another time the piece got in the way blocking it from closing. then i opened it and the piece fell out. Turns out its spring with two ends designed to hook onto something. It's very small, like an inch and a half and it has a plastic cylinder covering the springs. I've noticed the trunk is a little harder to close now but still closes pretty well. I think i'll have the dealer take a look at it once i bring it in for an oil change. Unless you guys can think of anything.

It sounds like one of the springs inside the locking mechanisim popped out from place because it was not seated proprerly from the factory. Take it to acura and most liley they will say to you that they do not know where it came from.

It looks like it came from #6 in this picture, the part name is LOCK, TRUNK (HANDLE+POWER+SWITCH)
