Questions on Extended warranty, dealer is pushing MasterTech!
Guys, I originally wanted to get the extended warranty from Tim at Hondaacuraworld.com but when we got my TL and now the RL they keep pushing the MasterTech warranty at us because they said it was better than the Acura/Honda warranty by a long shot. He told me he could still sell me the oem one, but he still kept pushing it instead. It was the same price.
What are your experience/recommendations on this?
Thanks.
Edit: PS, local dealer is pushing mastertech, not Tim.

Eh. OEM gets serviced at any acura dealer in the country. Where can you get serviced with the mastertech one? I bet they're pushing it because it has bigger margins for them.

Id ask for complete copies of both policies and read them in detail noting what is excluded, etc.
My gut says there is a gotcha somewhere in the mastertech policy though. Even if its something simple like having to pay upfront and submitt claims vs just picking up the car with the OEM policy.

The one provided by Acura is backed by Acura.
The other companies can sell extended warranties, they can also go bankrupt.
What is he chance of Acura/Honda going bankrupt?
Better to investigate if your State has provision in the law for such events.
Up here in Quebec, any companies selling extended warranties as to deposit money in a special fund just in case they should go out of business. This method is not entirely foolproof but at least provide some kind of protection to the consumers.

I have always purchased extended warrenties from manufacture, GM, Acura, Honda and Subaru. My friends have purchased from other sources and all have encountered problems in payment and approved coverage. Make sure all the electronics in your car is covered. There may be some weasel words that may not cover the navigation, HFL or bluetooth. OEM coverage has always given me piece of mind and no questions asked repairs. If the price is the same or even a few hunderd more I'd always recommend the OEM warrenty.

The dealer is not your friend. Especially when it comes to truth in advertising when making money on the back end.
