Question to those who installed chrome grill strips...

Hey everyone!

I was very impressed with the chrome grill strips I had seen on this forum, so I thought I would give it a try. I went to Wal-Mart and picked up some chrome door edge gaurd and installed it on my lower front grill.

It looked sweet after installing, but after a week of being on the car...the "chrome plating" material has bubbled up and it looks like crap. I obviously need to go with a different brand of chrome stripping. The kind I used was made by "BELL." What other brands have people successfully used. Thanks!

I believe the manufacturer of the stuff I bought was Trim-Lok? I don't remember where I bought it, nor saved the packaging, but likely Pep Boys or AutoZone. I comes packaged in rolls of various lengths, and many color selections. I found a brushed steel / aluminum look, not reflective like chrome (similar to the grille on the TL). It was cheap and I figured it was easy to replace if it wore poorly, or I got tired of it. My TL is 7 months old now, and they look fine....no peeling or blistering. Nice thing is, they come right off if you tire of them. Cheap and easy mod, easy to remove and replace if your taste changes.

It's called TrimBrite. You can buy it online or pick it up locally at PepBoys, Ace Hardware, etc. I bought the chrome color, but notice they also make a silver. Wonder if that would match the grill a bit better? Haven't seen that color in stores.

Chrome Grill Strips

I bought mine at Pepboys and have them on for about a month and so far have no peeling or bubbling.

"Truck Door Edge Molding" StyleGuard" S39480 2 x 4' Chrome

Here is the manufacturers website in case you want to look up other retailers.
