Question Question for Road Rage bout the MID

First of all, my apologies to all of you out there with expertise knowledge of TL who also may have the answer to my question. I am an infrequent visitor to the board and RR's name came to mind first. All comments and answers are much appreciated! Thanks to you as well RR.

I do my oil changes every 3500 miles, which is more frequent than is called for by the MID. My question concerns resetting the MID before it gets to its normal alert value. Does resetting the MID for the Oil Life also reset the other maintenance items it keeps track of?

I have 15,000 miles on the car and just completed it's latest oil change about 1000 miles ago. I have reset the MID every time I changed the oil but so far I have not seen the A or B service reminder alert. I have completed the tire rotations on my own without guidance from the MID but I am thinking that the MID should be alerting other required services by now, including tire rotations.

Because you change your oil every 3,500 miles, and reset the MID each time, you are making it think you have performed the services it would normally recommend, so this is why you are not seeing any reminders.

Your oil life was probably around 50% when you changed it each time, so no reminder there.

I can’t say for sure, but the interval for tire rotation is probably around 7,500 miles, so on your second oil change, with 7,000 miles, you reset the MID and it thought you did the tire rotation, so no reminder.

Since A, A1, and B only have to do with oil change and tire rotation, you will probably never see one of these, unless you miss the rotation by a few miles and the MID catches it.

The first reminder you may ever see is the 2, which is replace air cleaner and dust and pollen filter. These are independent of oil change and probably go by total miles accumulated, so may have a preset mileage at which they will compute that you need the change and post a 2 on the screen.

Thanks Ron - that makes perfect sense. I was hoping that I wasn't resetting everything and it sounds like the appropriate reminders should alert as programmed. Actually, I was planning on not resetting at every oil change, just to keep the MID reminding at something close to a normal oil change interval - somewhere around 7,000 miles of easy driving.

Sorry for the double post!
