Question regarding touch-up paint

I have a few rock/stone chips on my hood and was wondering if I could just get touch-up paint from the dealer to fill them in?

Would I need to get just the base or will I also need a clearcoat bottle as well, which I think the dealerships do not carry, or would just the paint be good enough?

This is for a '07 Nighthawk Black Pearl TL-S. TIA.

I've had very good results from http://www.paintscratch.com/paint/home-page/. Virtually perfect paint match for my CBP TL (small rock nicks) and my wife's Odyssey (she parks by ear sometimes).

They sell clearcoat, etc. also. And they tell you where to find the factory paint code and to add some part of your VIN; they do a better color match than you can get from the dealer.

Thanks guys. I understand you can get it from the dealer or online, however I was just wondering if it is required, or recommended, to get a clear coat bottle as well after applying the base paint?

What I was planning on doing is to touch-up the few rock chips I have and possibly putting a clear-bra over it, so I was wanting the best match before doing this.

If the chips are small. Clear coat is probably not needed. Especially if you are going clear bra.

1st step: use isopropyl alcohol to clean up the area
2nd: apply a small amount of touch up paint, then wait until the paint is completely dry, or use heat gun or hair dryer to speed up the process
3rd: apply another layer of touch up paint, then wait until the paint is completely dry, or use heat gun or hair dryer to speed up the process
5th: apply the clear top coat, don't let anything touch it until it's dry.

I bought my touch up paint from Ebay, it's a 2 headed pen, 1 with paint and 1 with top coat and it's Acura made.

Don't use a heat gun or a hair dryer to dry the paint. :/

Mini hijack but slightly related. Can touch up paint be sanded to avoid the bumpy touchup paint look?

Yes.

You want to wait a while before you sand it though.

Then polish it up with polish compound to remove the marks =)

Drcolorchip.com has the best product out for touch up's. It's a DIY'ers dream. They have different size's and price's starting at $40. I've used the dealer paint pen's and they don't even compare.

I purchased touch up from the dealer by providing them VIN and paint code. It did not even remotely match and is significantly darker.

My rear quarter panel is getting repainted as we speak. WDP. Couldnt I just ask the painter for a small bottle of the paint to which I could touchup my front bumper before I apply the clear bra

Anyone else have any insight on Drcolorchip.com? I have a lot of chips all concentrated in one area but I'm hesitant...
