Exclamation Question for the Moderators

Hey Mods,

I was wondering this for a while, but figured it was no biggie but now it happened to me and people think I am posting some ad, which I am not.

I just noticed over the past few weeks threads in which there is a product name, for example "TL" or in my case I referenced a tire and it creates an advertisement for that product if you drag you mouse over it.

An exaple of this can be found in the link to the question I posted in the tire and wheel forum:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133348

In this post all I did was type the goodyear tire that I was considering but if you drag your mouse over it, you get a dialog box for some tire easy website.

Mods, do you know how or why this is happening. Again, I did not do anything to cause it and if you search other post the same thing is happening to others as well.

In fact I previewed this post before submitting it and it happened again when I typed a certain manufacturer's name. Please explain......

Thanks,
Vince

No worries, its not you. The mods are going through a testing phase with embedded ads to earn some additional revenue. The ads seems to appear on certain keywords. You can ignore it as if it doesn't exist. Doesn't really bother me though.

Thanks for the quick response!!!! I really appreciate it.

I don't mind either. I just wanted to get clarification, as in my post I think someone thought it might have been my doing and it got my thread off topic, when all I wanted so some feedback on some tire choices.

Thanks again !!!!!

Yea I read that thread. You're very welcome. I'm sure a mod will come on here a set it straight. I remember seeing a post by Ron A in a thread about the ads. Can't seem to find it now...

Yes.. but we're not suppose to let the mods know we are blocking the ads.

I don't see a prob. with them at all. This site is free for us. It's apparent that a lot of work has gone into making this site as successful as it is. The big guy has every right to have the site pay for itself and to turn a profit.

If we had pop-ups all over the place that you had to keep clicking out of, that would be different. I think in their current state, the ads are unobtrusive.. If any scratch is to be made off of them, I say let them stay.

I agree, the don't really bother me and if they keep this "free" site going strong I am all for it. I just asked because in another forum someone was suggesting it was my doing.

The boss said some sites have as many as 7 per page, and he has limited it to 1 per page so it is not as intrusive.

I am learning to watch that my mouse doesn't cross over the link because you don't have to hover, just breeze by it and up it comes.

It is on a test basis for a relatively short time, so we will know after a few months have passed what his final decision is on keeping them.

The same hue and cry was raised when the banner ads started, but they are not as bad as they seemed at first.

As long as most of the page real estate stays related to the actual forum that's cool. The current banners aren't really that bad if the embedded links are limited to a few per page that is a small price to pay for such a great free site.

I agree. I don't like them, but it's a small price to pay for the forum.

In that case, I'll say something.

Honda-Tech had been doing this for a while now, and I really don't like it. It takes the focus away from the post and it looks cheap. It makes the entire forum look like one giant billboard. In fact, over time, I stopped visiting H-T; not just because of that, but it certainly was one of the main reasons.

I'm disappointed that AZ is doing it, too. I really hope that it's just a test, and it won't be implemented on a permanent basis.

While I'm not really a fan of it, the ads in "test phase" here are MUCH less obtrusive than on other sites I belong to and much as Ron A said above I just naviate around the indicated text. That said, if the help keep this great site up and running I can live with them considering the huge benefits I've gotten off this sight in only the few months I've been a member.
