Question: how to remove BSM?

Has anybody attempted to remove their body side mouldings?
How did you do it ? Is there a possibility of messing up the paint while removing them? Can BSMs be reused after removal?

My car is 01/2004 and I had BSM since inseption.
I decided to get rid of them now that I moved from NYC to NJ and got my own garage (not shared with inconsidered neighbours!). Besides, I see more and more TLs without BSM on the roads and I like it. When I was buying my car I had nothing realy to compare with..

Thanks!

I think they are just glued on, so some floss, a heat gun and time should take them off, and then some 3M adhesive remover or goo gone, and a nice polish should do it.

I am not sure so confirm first before trying this.

I wish I could remember what I posted as well as you can.

I was wondering how hard it would be to find my post when I thought of trying something new in the search. In the advanced search, I searched on moldings as the key word, and Ron A as the user name, and selected 3G only without child forums, and only got one page of results, so it was easy to find. Here it is, from 6/23/2004.

He didn't heat them, and there was practically no glue residue, but he cleaned up the area anyway to be sure the new ones would stick on well.

And Acura paid for all of this as a goodwill gesture because I complained so much about the EL-42s.

I watched the guy do it, and he took them off so carefully that they could be used again, so I am going to save them in case something happens to one of my moldings.

The shop guy took a flat plastic tool, but a credit card will work just as well, and put it under the front edge to get it started. Then he carefully started peeling back, being careful not to pull too far out or you will crease the molding. Of course, you would have to get new adhesive to put the molding back on, but that's cheaper than buying moldings.

Thanks Ron, this sounds realy simple.

I just realized that I forgot to mention one other big reason I wanted to get rid of BSMs - they turned yellowish within a first year of me owning this car (my color is SSM). So I am entertaining the idea of going to the dealer and asking them to replace my BSM under warranty, and after they remove them, just ask them to throw a new set into my trunk, then drive off the dealership quickly with big green on my face
Cost to me - $0 (I need to go to the dealer anyway to get some sqeaks out of interior and replace AT fluid)

Do you think I can pool this off?
