Question on dealer maintenance recomendation?

In for its 12k maintenance. They are recomending power steering and brake fluid flush since they say it's looking dark. Normal? Or are they just looking to make a buck? They want $65 for it.

Trying to make a buck! Just stay with the MID, or the maintenace schedule from Acura, not the dealer.

Not sure about power steering fluid. But brake fluid you should change it every 3 years regardless of mileage, you are at 12k i assume it hasn't been 3 years yet.
But dealer is correct too, if it looks black / polluted you should change it, however you should check it yourself 1st, or post a photo here.
Seriously $65 for both is not expensive. Yeah i know DIY is cheaper.

Thanks for the input!

I told them to push it back until the next service due at the 15K mark..

I'll check it first..

Last time they wanted $80 to clean my throttle and $80 more to lube my brake pad or caliper pins don't remember exactly.. said the same thing push it to the 12K maintenance..

Said no way.. I am cleaning it..

Not normal.

Unless there was something wrong with the throttle response or noises from the brakes, you didn't need this either.

Sounds like your dealer wants to charge you for unnecessary services, though.

I work for an Acura dealership and hell, even I think that's bull...

At 12k, you don't need any of that done. And you won't for many more miles. Save your money

with the 10% ethanol gas we all run now- it leaves behind more combuston byproducts then ever
Induction cleaning- seafoam the manifold and gas is a good investment in carbon buildup prevention and most miles per gallon

While acura says start brake fluid change at year 3 then every year- many find after a year or 2 its gotten moisture in it-
its hygroscopic and sucks moisture from the air, ruins calipers and ABS controllers
I change my brake fluid at least once a year- its easy and cheap insurance

PS fluid also absorbs moisture but it gets hot enough thru circulation in use to dry out- brake fluid doesnt get that
PS fluid every 3 years or 60k miles should keep you good

Read the book carefully- many people are driving in severe service secton of the maitenance list without knowing it
That cuts a lot of the times nearly in half

The book is basics- you can do more to really care for your car

Again I appreciate all the input..

There was no throttle response changes.. They just recommended it since they said the build up could cause bad MPG..

I really just told them I would clean it and the brakes at 9K should be good as new since I drive like a Granny so I understood none was needed..

This time it was the fluids..

I'll let you guys in on the 15K recommendations..

How much do they charge for the labor? hourly rate in the states?
