Question about tint

I was ordered by a police officer to remove tint from my back window and rear passenger windows- it was apparently too dark for PA law.
I did it myself- carefully using heat gun and then Simple Green on remnants of the glue.
I would like to get a lighter shade of tint back on. The car looks better that way.

My question is, how is tint applied on the rear window? I could barely fit my fingers all the way back past the speakers to wipe off the glue- how do the tint people get it in there and apply tint so neatly?
Do they lift off the whole window apply tint and then glue it back on? Or do they somehow remove the back platform* to gain better access to the bottom of the window?

Any tinting related tips?

*what is the surface under back window that holds speakers officially called?

Don't really know, and shouldn't really care. IMO get a professional to do it for you.

I believe the 3rd brake light needs to be removed. But i've never done tinting before. this is just what ive recalled reading. I got my tints professionally done.

I don't think I want to chance the back window by doing it myself. I was just curious how it's done in a professional shop.
The side windows seem like a do-able task though.

Yea, the back window i would have it professionally done. That's crazy though, the only thing they care about here is the front two windows. I was told by a cop who pulled me over for tints, that all rear windows could be spray painted black...as long as the fronts aren't too dark.

i hate when cops complain about the window tint...its a rarely enforced law but some cops are anal about it. Get the rear tint removed professionally, you dont want to scratch up the window.

i usually tell cops "i don't care about my tints being illegal"... and they always say "it's the law"...

but really this is why i can't stand you everyday traffic patrolmen; like they themselves don't jaywalk, litter... etc and i am sure in many states fellatio and anal are illegal too.

How would you enforce that?

The surface where the speakers are called is the rear deck.

You have to remove the 3rd brake light in order to tint properly. I believe that it is held in by a 10mm bolt.

What state are you in? What is the law regarding tint?

Might want to check your state tint laws to avoid instant replay.
I'm also vote to let a pro do it. If Navi, non-metallic is preferred.
