Question about returning lease and tires
Question about returning lease and tires
I have an 04 TL w/ the High Performance Tires. The tread has worn down considerably most likely because of spinning out so much in the snow. I need to turn in the var later this year as the lease is up. My options are:
1) Leave the tires on there now with low tread, let them charge me whatever for them when I turn in the lease
2) Buy 4 cheap all season tires, but risk getting charged because they're not high performance
3) Buy 4 high performance tires (non-oem)
What do you guys think is the best option? Anyone been through this before with turning in a lease on a TL w/ High Performance Tires?
Any advice would be great.

Sorry, I should clarify.. One of the tires blew on Friday so I need to get it replaced and I can't just replace one. I could try to get it patched (which would still be option 1) but no guarantee it can be patched.
Wait a minute. They darn sure DO check tires!
You'll get a lease-end packet that will outline what they consider to be "normal wear and tear". Most mfr's require that you have a minimum of 3/32" of tread remaining (some require more). Believe me, I've been through this with BMW, Inifniti, Nissan and others, and they most certainly do care ... they will raise hell if you try to return the car with:
- Tires with less than the minimum tread left, or
- Tires that aren't equivalent to OEM. That means the same load, speed and even treadwear ratings if they get picky.
"Excessive wear" means what it says, and slick tires is excessive wear.
I always do 15,000/year leases, and since the OEM's aren't going to last 45,000 miles, I've gotten to where I just get a new set by 25-30,000 miles ... that way I get to ride on good tread and don't have to worry about bald tires. I figure I might as well get the good out of them instead of just putting on new tires and handing it over to the dealer.

Since we are talking about leases, I didnt want to start a new thread just for my question. I have an 06 TL leased. I have moved from the state I leased it from. Do I have to bring my car back to the same dealership i leased my Acura from or can I bring it back to any dealership? Sorry if this is one of those, dohhhh, questions. BEN

Thanks..
I always do 2 years leases with 30k a year, so I usually end up putting on new tires at 30 to 35k I just turned in mine a few weeks ago and I was over on my lease and the tires had a fair amount of wear on them, they didn't say anything to me. "they dare"

Nope you don't, when I changed dealers they took mine in no problem.....just make sure it' an acura dealer.
Reputable tire shops will not put on cheap tires that do not meet the minimum specs needed for that particular car. In today's litigious (sp) society, that would leave them open to a huge lawsuit if someone, even you, drove the car beyond the tire rating and has a tragic accident.

Read your lease agreement - mine had a clause which stated tires were not charge-able and were included in my "normal wear & tear".........I turned the car in with the tires needing to be replaced - they said nothing
