Question about racing with Sportshift mode

When you are racing with sport shift from a stop it doesn't seem to be a great idea to step on it from the line. I find once in second gear then I can let her go, but most of the time it doesn't bode well if I try to floor it in first. What do you guys think? Also when you're racing from a 40mph rol in sport shift what gear would you start in? 2nd or 3rd?
Thanks guys, Ryan C.

3/4 throttle and then go full throttle from a stop. @ 40 you're at the bottom end of second gear.
