Question about this gasket

Hi everyone ive recently remove the intake manifold cover and this gasket came with it. The thing is a little bit of the black ''paint'' was removed. I as wondering if originally this gasktet was suppose to be metallic/grey or did it originally came black and i scrap some sealant/paint off it. If it was indead grey should i scrap the black surface then? Finally can i reuse this? Thank you.

I would get a new one from the dealer. I don't imagine they would be expensive. The fact the black paint on the gasket is chipping means it is old enough to replace and maybe deformed.

The SM says to replace it. I didn't (when I removed the manifold for a valve adjustment) and have had no issues for over 150K miles since.

I would reuse it. That is my unprofessional opinion tho. If I were concerned in a certain area I would apply a slight coating of black rtv sealant to said area. Again tho that is just what I would do. I am too cheap and impatient ha.

It's supposed to be black. Clean it and you can reuse it if there aren't any cracks or visible damage.

FYI, NAPA has it listed for $59.49.
