Basically, there is a solar sensor on the right front portion of your dash. It senses where the sun is (based on which direction you are headed [i.e. GPS-linked]).

It then adjusts the climate control so that if you have selected 70 degrees, but the sun is shining down on your side of the car, in actuality you might be getting 68 degrees to compensate for the warmth. At least, I think that's what it does.

interesting.. so what exactly does the GPS have to do with anything? cause i know that my 1st gen TL has solar sensors as well and does the same thing.

does it make like the air blowing on the left side of the car a bit colder to compensate if the sun is shining on the left side of the car?

and what about those w/o navi?

It's supposed to use the GPS to know where the sun is in the sky. It knows where you are, what direction you're going, where the sun is located in the sky (based on time, I think).

Why? Why???

I just never understood the point. But even with the solar-sensing climate control, I don't see a "need".

I'll never get these gimmicks. But I don't mind...as long as I have a way of ignoring it or turning it off.

mamboking,

I just installed an auto-headlight module. See this thread:

https://acurazine.com/forums/religion-politics-18/ok-classist-128786/

It works perfectly. Never need to touch my headlight switch anymore!

Rob

Actually, the GPS system tells it where the sun is and you can even see this info through the diagnostics screen. The sensor on the dash just detects whether or not it's actually sunny. The sun may be straight overhead, but you might be in the shade or in heavy, dark rain, in which case you wouldn't want the system to try to chill you more.

It's a bit gimmicky, but it's kinda cool to hear the airflow changing out of the vents as you take turns through city streets.
