Q re GPS-based clock setting in Navi models

Picked up my new TL yesterday and the mind boggles at the learning curve ahead...

One thing I'm concerned about is that my clock was set three hours ahead (said 6 PM at 3 PM). I have manually overridden it, but I would have much preferred to have it GPS-managed. My understanding was that the using the satellite approach, time zone should be understood and reflected automatically... all the manuals seem to say is that the clock in a Navi TL is set by GPS...don't see any troubleshooting info yet.

Anybody else run into this?

The Auto Time/Zone GPS clock settings are on Setup Screen Four. Maybe they're turned off

I haven't set it and its been 5 months. It should do it automatically. Maybe it only checks at specific intervals? Mine has been dead on since I picked it up.

You may not have to override it. Check first to make sure the correct time zone is selected.

Shouldn't a NAV-equipped car already know which time zone it is in?

the time you get from a GPS is the atomic time so it should be dead on every time and like an atomic clock should be set to your time zone, unless someone else touched it before you picked it up.

The setup screens alllow for manual adjustment of time zone. Perhaps the car was traded between dealers across time zone lines. Whether or not clock adjustment is automatic based on GPS data (or if it should be automatic), I do not know. But as long as it can be adjusted, I figure it's worth a few seconds to simply check. What does he have to lose?

GPS satellite time is in GMT. Unless the software has a database to translate lat/lon to time zone it won't automatically adjust. The 2nd gens did NOT have this and you have to set the time zone manually if you travel to another area. But once set for the proper hour it always updates correctly after that.

In my experiences on Nov., I drove between Estern Time and Central Time. GPS-controlled clock auto adjusted my clock imperceptibly.

Wonder if it's a software version issue, my Version is from July something and I had to manually set my time.
