Q. on how to add interior lights.

i need help on installing some bulbs for added interior lighting. i want them to operate like the bulbs on the doors, ( on when door is open and off when shut). but i also what to be able to bypass that to be able to turn them on when the doors are closed and be able to keep them off when the doors are open. so iam thinking of doing it like the interior dome lights, similar to the 3-way switch the domes use.( either off all the time on all the time or on only when the doors are open). i know it sounds comlicated, but i just need to realy know how the doors get their power for the lights and how to use the same switch the doors use to turn on. thanx for any help and pics are always helpful, thanx again

Maybe it's me or it's midnight and I'm still at work. But where would you add the bulbs?
there's a switch at where the door shuts that tells the car that the doors are open. It's usually a rubbery thing that sticks out of the car body so that when the door shuts, it retracts. Think of it as a refrigerator door? Does the light stay on when you shut the door?

the problem is that i want to be able to have the domes off with these addons on. but work with the doors when they are open. i want the addons to work the same way the domes do, but on a different switch.
