pulled a GT500 in 1st and part of 2nd gear(got luck)

Raced a GT500 from a light about a week ago on bald tires... he needed to work on his shifting because I pulled him by 1 to 2 cars in 1st gear, 2nd gear he started coming back strong and zipped past me going into 3rd... 3rd was weak for me because I forgot to turn off traction control and it ingaged when I slammed it into 3rd and caused it to bog down... it was a good death for me....

A good death keeps us humble . . . but not for long . . . right.

It can also serve to motive us to take the next step in the mods department.

nice run! My friend has a GT500. He sent it in a while ago to shelby in vegas to get the super snake addition too his car. He has it back now and that car is so bad ass!! 600HP now with the engine upgrades and lots of other upgrades including baer brakes, different exhaust, upgraded wheels and tires, embroidered seats, shelby signature and number on dash and other suspension goodies that I cannot remember. Plus they got rid of that white stripe in place for a black stripe. Looks much cleaner, but a lot of money wasted IMO. I would rather have a Z06, ZR1 or CTS-V if I was going to blow all that cash.

I saw the title and thought it was going to be another TL beats a supercar thread. Good death. Sounds like you did ok against him but I'm surprised he went around you like that. There's one at the local track here that goes low 13s at 109mph. It's the only one I've seen in person and our track usually posts some good mph. It is the real deal, not a fake.

There's a woman at work that owns one. It's her daily driver/commuter. The inside looks like an ashtray and trash can. So sad for such a rare car (even if it is a Mustang lol).

Lol... I was too... but low 13s? A 500+hp car should do better then that. That's all drivers error if you ask me... I'm 400+hp and for damn sure know that I'm low low 13s... my buttometer tells me so.... lol

Scary to think that a Mercedes E63 wagon could easily smoke both cars in this thread

Interesting about the GT not being that quick as I thought. A person hears of the supposed 540 HP (SAE Net) and automatically think it must be quick... as I thought too.

Car & Driver sure is not too impressed. I suppose that the GT's 4000 lbs puts a BIG dent into the available horsepower

This makes me second-guess if I was really hanging with that GT in my video before the timid driver shut it down

How does the Mercedes E63 wagon weighing more that 4100 pounds (M-B USA) run the 1/4 mile in 12.4-12.5@113/114 mph?? faster then the GT500 and V8 R8

Is it the gear ratios or are german horses really that strong??

I think it's a combo of things. The Mustang probably doesn't make the rated hp. It's a pig at 4,000lbs. But keep in mind the Mustang does trap close to what the Mercedes does meaning the power is about the same since the weight is about the same. That 12.4@113 is with a lot of traction. Mustang would still run 12.0@113 on slicks.

To give an idea of how much weight matters, my GN hit the high 10s at 3,300lbs and 500 at the wheels.

As much as I love my car too I don't always recommend it to everyone. For one you will be blackballed by the muscle car crowd for driving a 6 banger. There's almost more love from the import crowd due to the turbo setup.

If you get one, try and get one that needs no bodywork or interior work. Drivetrain parts are easy to come by but it will break the bank trying to fix up the interior because parts are scarce.

The GN will only go high 13s stock but $200 will put it in the 12s.

The LSx stuff is great, good bang for the buck and plenty of it. The GNs are super cheap to get into the 10s (relatively speaking of course) but once you need to upgrade the bottom end (10.50s or quicker) parts are about double of the equivilent Chevy stuff. If your plans are a super mild 11.50 street car, throw $1,500 at the bone stock longblock and enjoy but I just thought I would warn you of the cost of parts once you get away from the factory longblock. The really nice thing is I ran around for years going mid to lower 11s with it stock from the throttlebody down, just a few bolt-ons. The good part about the 11.50 range is the engine and rear end will last forever. The trans requires a shift kit and cooler but that too will last for a very long time if you treat it right.

I personally have $3,000 into the engine but I'm pushing more hp than I should. I have a factory 4.1L block from the junkyard, JE pistons, stock rods and crank and a block girdle. I did all of the assembly and most of the machining myself so that saved a lot of money. So far so good but there will come a day when I drive over the crank. I also have over $3,500 in the trans and another $900 in the convertor. Of course I could've spent $650 total and gotten a super reliable TH400 and lost the OD which is what I would do if I had it to do over again.

I know I've whored this video out too much but this is about $1,200 in mods. I devirginized this car with it's first mods. Used intercooler, TE-62 turbo, K&N, exhaust, and fuel pump and injectors. This was in street trim around 22psi boost. It has quite a bit left in it on a race gas tune. It doesn't show how fast the GN is because the owner is too afraid to launch hard and you can't tell but my TL was floored the whole time. Once we turned the boost up for some harder runs it would break traction all the way through 70mph. In fact this exact car with a mean tune took down a cammed new Z06 and a couple of bolt-on Terminator Mustangs.

I like it all but when you want to go fast, American muscle is by far the cheapest and quickest. Even the CL65AMG I was driving the other day is not in the same ballpark as my GN. While it's very fast for a luxury car, take the AMG to the races and it's going to get embarassed. The GN is different than most American muscle. Even the sound is much different. Compare:

Ahhh not to shabby at all. I loveee the sound of a spooling turbo, puts a huge grin on my face. It's pretty nice sound I suppose but I still hate the body design (your GN looks better then most though), I'm only 17 so yeah I'm the kid who grew up with Fast and the Furious, a bunch of ricers lol. I'm still a huge fan of the Zo6 if I would get an American built car, and a huge hater of the Mustang lol.

Are you sure that wasn't a GNX? Most 20,000 mile GNs go for 25K. An 80,000 mile one averages 10-15K. Some GNXs go for over 100,000 and some 10 second GNs go for 15K. Turbobuick.com usually has the most reasonable prices. Some people try and sell them for 3X what they're worth.
