Proper ground in trunk

So when I installed my train horn on the TL I used the 10mm bolt that grounds the fuel pump instead of drilling into the brace. It's a viar 400c 30amp draw. I was reading that thread about car audio that someone recently posted in and another member stated that grounding on the same bolt could burn out the fuel pump. Now obviously I'm not interested in replacing the fuel pump anytime soon so would it be recommended to drill another bolt a few inches from it? If grounding on th same bolt is a problem how is putting another one a few inches away any different?

I would drill a new hole, sand off the paint and re-ground it if you are worried. I'd be more worried about interference from using the fuel pump ground vs it's own dedicated ground than burning out the fuel pump.

Yea not sure why someone would say the fuel pump could burn up. They share the same ground so what? That will not cause a motor to burn up regardless of how many amps it pulls.

Now if you used the fuel pump circuit for the power side, the only possibility there is you could blow the fuse.

The TL equipment all share the same ground, which is the chassis. Comes directly back via negative on battery post to metal.

This is exactly what I thought. I've never heard of over utilizing a ground. Hell I had an old conversion van and there would be 10 connections on one ground.

Someone on that thread was complaining because the person used the fuel pump ground for their amp and I was thinking can that actually cause an issue? Just wanted to be sure

Most likely compromised the intial ground when tinkering with it. I would just located an area near that you can bolt up a connector to. I wouldn't take off the original ground. I tried taking the orginal ground off up front for the radio but those things were on there TIGHT. It was most likely going to break if i tried to take it off so i didn't want that headache, especially with 5 or more wires on one ground bolt.
