Problems in 5th Year of ownership

Bought my Acura 2004 TL in September of 2004 and bought extended warranty in 2008, lucky I did. During 2009, the following has been replaced:

Starter - went with absolutely no warning.

Driveshaft replaced after complaining about noisy left turns.

Automatic transmission - while driving on the highway lost the ability to accelerate and tach reached 6 to 8000 rpm. Pulled to side of the road and was flat bed to nearest dealer, who replaced my transmission.

Today engine light appears on dash, so who knows what else is wrong.

Thank goodness for the extended warranty, except for a 100 dollar deductable all was paid for via the extended warranty.

welcome to the forum

Those items are normal wearout--starter,,maybe the car was driven a lot of short trips and started several times a day, or the brushes finally wore out

Driveshaft/cv axle wear out- often the protective rubber boot gets torn/breaks and grease goes out- dirt goes in,,,= noise--replacement

Trans- its an 04, using same trans as the ill fated gen2 2000-20003 trans with its horrible reliabilty record. Did you get more than 60k miles out of it?

CEL- did you just put gas in? if the cap has a bad seal or you dont get it 3 clicks tight, it will leak and cause a CEL

How many miles on your car-
Never did anything but oil change and brakes till now?

The 105k miles service is a big deal- doesnt have to be dealer service but timing belt and water pump are critical to engine operation~

Other than that just keep up oil changes every 6000-7500 miles and enjoy the car!

I used to work in the service department at na Acura dealership and we saw a few 04 TL's with higher mileage come in for starters. Some of these cars like to go through power steering racks as well as pumps. Might as well do both at the same time. As far as the trans, I have an 04 TL and have not had any trans issues. I service it all the time but just dont seem to have issues. Maybe yours was one of the early ones that has the 2 gen issues. As far as the CEL, check that gas cap. If its tight and the gasket is good, take it to the dealer and have them pull the code. Sounds like you know the deal with these cars already. Good luck to you and hopefully less problems in the future.

Weak batteries will cause a starter to go out much sooner. Have you ever had battery issues?

Quite scary to hear these kinds of stories, especially when most of our cars here are voided (due to modifications).
