Predictions: Supercharged 2.5 Altima VS. My TL
Hey guys, got a buddy with a supercharged 08 Altima 2.5 SE and he claims he can beat me. I'm pretty sure he is correct, but wanted to check with you guys on what you think. We aren't racing until I get my Greddy EVO 2 Cat Back by the end of this month, so please include that as well. Tell me your opinion and what not. He claims that he had 190hp stock and says now it has 260hp. I'm not sure that is even possible, but what do I know?![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Are you 5AT or 6MT? Is he auto or stick? (Idk what speeds they are lol). That could be the determining factor.

70hp gain for a 4cyl? Hum, assuming that's at the rear wheels that sounds high . . and should take you. But if it's at the crank I think it'll be a close race. What color is it . . so can watch out for him when I have a 2.5 Altima mess with me. ![Tongue](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)

I would go for it considering he's auto also and hopefully he'll just spin the tires. Your car stock can run the quarter in about 15 flat should be a little better though with your cold air intake and cat-back exhaust. I believe (not sure) the Altima 2.5 runs the quarter in around 16 sec range stock . So i would go for it lol!!

Alright. So I am going to go for it. The kid is kinda an idiot, today he claimed he beat the new M3s and M5s. I doubt that. I might even have a j pipe then as well.

Who makes the supercharger for the 2.5S? There is a company that makes a turbo kit, but no supercharger.
You sure he doesn't have one of those ebay electric superchargers? haha.

OP
Ask him to put money down on it since he is cocky he should have nothing to worry about.

well, to be honest, he basically told his parents he wants a fast car, so they got him a 2.5 altima and put on either a turbo or a supercharger and he told me it is a supercharger. He won't let me see under the hood cuz he claims it is a "secret" but i've been in the car while hm driving and it does sound like a turbo. So I guess it is a turbo.

Well if he smokes M3s and M5s, you better stay away!
I say the TL will edge him out. If his car is completely stock on the outside, I'm assuming he has those fat tires that come with the steel wheels on the 2.5? Also, CVTs leave for a sluggish start off the jump. You may run on him until 60, but he may become a problem after that. CVTs channel power great at highway speeds. Not sure how they behave with turbo/superchargers, but they do pretty good with stock power. And, I thought CVTs are tuned for the engines power? Wouldn't he have to modify the ECU and all that for the CVT to handle the extra power?
Either way, the TL is still a sexier car at the end of the day. And his is just, well, an Altima.
Even after that, I'm still wondering what parents say yes after a kid asks for a fast car? Assuming its his first car... And I'm still puzzled to why they would add a turbo to a vanilla Altima, versus buying a Civic Si sedan or Sentra SE-R.

That's an ASS weak assertion. I'm sure you'd hate it if someone stated, "the TL is just a glorified Accord V6.".
As for your puzzlement (and though it should be relatively obvious), both the Civic Si and Sentra SE-R have notably higher insurance costs than the 'plain vanilla' Altima (not to mention the Alti V6). The base Altima is good way to go if one is inclined towards modding while staying somewhat under the insurance radar.
The don't denigrate someone else's ride unless they've earned the flamejob.

sounds like he is full of bs, just race him and embarass him. If his parents made it super fast i bet they just put an ebay electric sc on it.

The only thing I said about the Altima is that the 2.5's are plain.
Sorry you drive an Accord.

My son's 3.5SE is about as plain as any base 2.5S (exc. for the dual exhaust outlet, betraying the VQ under the hood) yet, it will pretty much beat down on 90% of the TLs he comes across. (And that's a little on the conservative side.) Perceived sexiness of a vehicle (and the subjectivity thereof) does not garner points in a win/lose race.....which is the nature of this thread.
And BTW, I just swapped out the Accord for an 09 Acura MDX.

i wouldnt say altimas beat down 90% of TL's isnt the Altima like 270Hp and the type S is 286 and the 05 and 04 TL's are 270 so id have to say its a drivers race after that.. but then again im not a nissan fan and i dont like the altima either.. im gonna have to agree with jeowen altima FTL.. nothing wrong with ACCORDS either..lol

we're saying he is not turbo. He is full of shit. Unless you hear a clear bov or hear him spinning the front wheels while rolling in 2nd gear, please race him and shut his dumb ass up.

The Altima 3.5SE may be faster, but it cannot compete with the TL. No one is cross-shopping Altimas with TLs, unless your possibly buying used cars.
And in other news... OP: just whoop his ass.

Haha no I haven't head a BOV and I haven't seen spinning in second, so sounds like cheap ebay turbo chip or w/e. You guys are making me really confident by the way.

It all depends on the driver. If he is a manual and so are you, anything can happen. Both automatics then its up to the better transmission. Depends on which tranny will shift faster then the other. Plus I would just do it to shut his mouth. And there is no way possible he is beating any new M3 or M5. I owned a 450awhp Evo and I could beat them by just a few lengths. No Altima is going to do that. He is just blowing smokeup your B_TT.

MODERATOR'S NOTE: Again, the thread is race oriented (as is the subforum) and nothing to do with aesthetics. If you or any others wish to rail against the perceived styling faux pas of both the 3G and 4G Altima while exalting the beauty of the 3G TL (and the even more gorgeous 4G TL) then a new discussion can be opened up in the Car Talk forum. (Even then, I'd have to warn you that there is zero tolerance when it comes to obtuseness within Car Talk. Although it annoys me personally, I'm a little flexible with it in this subforum.)
