Power trunk opener/closer mod?

I was just wondering if it is all possible to install a power opener/closer motor in our 3G TLs. I basically would like it to open completely and close completly smoothly with a push of a button. I think it would be a really nice, unique, and helpful mod. Thank you for your time and info.

The mod is good, I thought about it when I had my trunk dynamatted, that freaken thing would open only for 1/2 an inch

You could also travel a cheaper route and just replace your spring for the trunk to open more efficiently. There are kits to help you accomplish your goal, I know high end bmw and benz sport the option. If you have a custom audio system that would be a sweet mods. Enjoy.

I was wondering if this was a mod. I've seen other TL's in vids on here where their trunk opened more than mine. Mine just pops open but doesn't move up more than an inch.

Removing the weight will help a lot. Mine opens halfway just from hitting the release. I also have the spoiler so one without might open farther. Otherwise I would not invest a penny in something that I can just flick open myself.

If your arms and hands are full, how would you press the button to close the trunk?

This is what I was thinking, in your case just replace the spring and shocks. IMO I laugh at the people who reach all the way up to press a button on the trunk door instead of just reaching up and pulling down. IMO, what if you walk away, something gets stuck and it reopens?

If you bought the wing from ACURA, it should have came with stronger springs.

SHOULD have, but not always the case. Bought the wing when we bought the car at the dealership, but they didn't put the different spring or whatever it is that they were supposed to put. Personally, I like having a trunk that only opens 1/2 inch.

My friend's CL65 has that auto open/close. It's broken more often that it works.

AGREED, for weight reduction removing all molding trim & non-important extras(wings-spoilers, lips etc), your trunk should open all the way up. Unless your springs are really worn out.

That's some of the dumbest stuff I've seen on this site and that's saying a lot.

I can understand wanting the truck to open by itself when you have your hands full.

I can't understand why the hell you would ever want the trunk to open going down the freeway. The one with the neon lights sounds like it's dying and you would die of boredom before it finished opening. The others with the spare behind the trunk are just tacky.

It's just a trunk for God's sake. Who cares if it can "wave" on the freeway or take 30 seconds to open.

I think its a unique feature. I mean our cars are classified as a more luxurious vehicle so why not have featured that really high end luxury vehicles have. Its just something to stand out from all the other TLs.

I don't know how difficult it would be. If you wanted it to close as well as open, wouldn't you need some sort of pneumatic system?

Holy hell thats retarded. "pop trunk wave"...what a bunch of morons. Its a damn trunk, if youre too lazy to open and close it yourself get rich and buy a car that does it for you. SUVs only have it cause mostly women drive them and some are too short or weak to close the big ass tailgate... Our trunk takes no effort to open/close

Couldn't agree with you both more.

Yep, the 7-series get's the trunk with the option of Comfort Access and soft-close doors, however both are standard on the 760! The 7 uses a hyraulic system with a fluid reserve in the trunk. I have had the system leak twice in the years I have had my car, and of course it was caused by someone trying to manually close the trunk!

Either way, it's a great feature but involves a bit of work. If you look at the s-class video, you can hear the lock engaging after the trunk is closed, electronically. IMO finding or modifying the locking mechanism won't be easy to lock the trunk properly. As well, finding a way to mount the actuator won't be easy either because of the way the trunk hinges are shaped like a U in the TL.
