power steering hose recall

So I schedule an appointment to have the recall done at my local dealer. I arrive at the dealer, I'm told they don't have parts in stock and they cannot order them.... They expect to have the parts mid-July. What is wrong with Acura - I'm assuming that if they issue a recall they should at least be able to order to part???

That is strange. I just took my '05 in yesterday and they did both the power-steering recall and the wiper motor recall. Made the appointment on Monday, done by end of day Thursday. They even gave me a loaner. It was very easy.

Search "power steering hose recall" and learn how the recall is being conducted and the scope of it.

the problem is called ~ supply and demand.

The hoses they WERE using on the factory assembly line- for a few years- have a problem- So they have the hose making place/town----- located in whatever far far-away nation,
use corrected fittings or whatever- and make new ones.
Some were already available and in the warehouses in usa.
some are being made- expect a month to get here.
Welcome to the world of car ownership. Every car has recalls and warranty repairs.
They are just made of parts!!
members who are registered with acura.com and acura care would know all about this already

I opened a thread on this very issue.

Got my recall notice last Saturday. Agonized over it since I am seriously anal about my property. Made my appointment on Wednesday for yesterday morning at 6:15. Waited for the work to be completed and it was in 1 hour, 40 minutes.

Nice tone as usual.

If you read his post his frustration stems from the fact the DEALERSHIP scheduled the appointment yet obviously failed to ensure they would have parts for said appointment!

One would think with your vast knowledge of the "industry" you would understand that if the service dept makes an appointment it should ALREADY be based off of parts AVAILABILITY!"

That was step one when making an appointment at the dealership I worked at..... But then again, our dealership didn't require donuts or popsicle to get good service nor worry about techs inappropriately F'ing with a customers car due to the customer being picky...

And I digress...

Andy74,
Best thing you can due is always call your service dept prior to your apt/driving there to ensure they actually have what they need. Should not be your job but will save you time and gas money.

Good luck - my TL needs the same yet I haven't had the time to take it in.

service dept often schedules appts. without checking with parts dept- they assume parts always has what they will need
Should you have to ask parts dept in advance yourself, no

I have spread my vast knowledge where applicable, those that choose to use it often have good results, and gained specific knowledge of TL maitenance and repair by participating in acurazine.

My post are often general in nature and not directed at the OP, but intended for future readers to understand that situations occur, for example- why delays or backorders occur in auto repair--- just like any biz.
If every store had what I wanted when I wanted it, my life would be much happier.
But I am living on Earth, and there are great places and people, and there are others...

My dealer schedules the recall out 7 days minimum supposedly to make sure they have the parts. Nonetheless I'll probably call the night before to double check. I'd rather not waste 45 minutes there and 45 minutes back...

They quote 1.5 hours for the whole thing. I'm going to wait. I don't like to leave the dealers premises when they have my car unless I absolutely have to.

Sorry.. "groinocologist" is a Greaseman term for a real medical practice.

I just couldn't miss the opportunity to have a little light fun. Best of luck to you!

make an appointment, and also check if your wiper motor is recalled too. i had my power steering hose replaced, my headlights restored (due to premature distortion), and wiper motor replaced.

took 8 hrs total for the three repairs.

What I was told is that they work on 04-05s first... then they'll tackle 06s and moving on to the 07s and then affected 08s.

It only makes sense to work on the older cars first, those hoses don't last forever. They wear just like anything else.

Just be patient...it shouldn't be a huge problem unless its 120 degrees out and you're hitting t he redline.

You could actually call the dealer to schedule an appointment even before you receive letter from Acura. I did my service recall last week before I receive letter from Acura. But do make sure they have the parts before you go in.

i called about the recall, and they told me to wait for my letter

then again, if i had actually called MY Acura dealer in NY it'd probably be a bit different... lol

Thanks guys. TO answer some questions - yes my frustration is that the dealer accepted the appointment to have the recall done. I schedule 1/2 from work to drop the car off. I dropped it off to find out they're out of stock. I understand that cars break, but if you read carefully - this is not my complain.

To make the long story short, I scheduled an appointment with another dealer, they confirmed the part is in stock. Will get have it done this Wednesday.
