Potential owner...how does this car look?
Hello everyone, this is my first post and I have come across this 2008 Acura TL Type S with 130k miles on it. It's a high mileage but not very old car. Just wondering what the forum's thoughts are on this car.

Welcome to the forum.
Do you know if the 105k service has been done?
Not a bad looking car at all sans the wheels.

The asking price is $13,900
Well I just called the dealership and asked if the 105k service had been completed. The guy I talked to was a jerk and said he assumed it had not been completed and told me that I should take it a mechanic if I really wanted to know.

Get it down to 13 or even 12.5 and get it.
Thats a great price for a 6 speed Type S. Mileage isnt a huge deal. Just drive it and if it feels solid, and doesnt make any funny noises then there shouldnt be any huge repairs besides the 105k.
And its a one owner. That helps too! Go for it!
***Actually I just noticed the check engine light is on. Look at the seventh to the last picture on their website. Could be something as simple as a sensor, or it could mean the cylinders are misfiring.***

That's in great condition considering the miles.

Good deal for sure -- almost too good to be true. I'd look it over with a fine comb considering it looks semi-modified (possible exhaust mods) and the CEL is on. The price is there, as long as the condition can back it up. Check body gaps for possible accidents that go unnoted by CarFax.

Best of luck with your intended purchase. Tell the jerk who suggested you get a mechanic to see if the 105,000 checkup was done or not that you're going to do that. And after they're done with the car, he'll Rotor Rooter him too.

the car looks great but that rims and the shift knob isn't my taste, like every one else said need to find out if 105k has been done and don't forget to ask why is that CEL is on.

It looks good, other than those fugly wheels... Id definitely get it checked out by a trusted mechanic, make sure that CEL isnt something major that'll make you fail state inspection... Once you get the mechanic to look at it use his estimate to get the price down. I hate dealerships, especially ones that treat you like shit. You can also bring up the fact that the stock type-s wheels are missing to drive the price down. Did you get a NADA or edmunds value check?

Price seems dirt cheap, I feel like the dealers by me would ask at least 20K for that, I haven't even seen any Type S's for under $18K by me and that one a reconstructed title. Sounds fishy at that price. Maybe the CEL is just from having the ignition on car off?

Thanks for the help and comments guys. I really do appreciate it.
At 130k, how much longer do you the clutch will last? If if hasn't been replaced already, I'm guessing it won't make it much longer than 150k.
Also, what kind of mods do you see? I'm not all that familiar with Acura TLs. I have noticed the wheels, shift knob, and trunk debadging.

Trunk doesn't have a spoiler, the license plate strip is not chrome, and the check engine light is on. Sounds fishy to me. The trunk was replaced for sure.
I'd get something older with fewer miles. You can get a 05-06 TL in the same price range with much lower mileage. Sure it won't be a Type S, but that shouldn't matter too much.

Wouldnt hurt to see it in person.
Check to see if all of the original VIN stickers are were they should be. I dont have the locations memorized but there should be stickers in all of the door jambs; and with the trunk open, on the right side of the bumper area. Kinda hard to explain w/o pics but it's like a grey/white sitcker you cant miss on a NBP.
I would look carefully for the trunk sticker since as mentioned above the trunk was replaced or something. This was one of the first things I looked for when I inspected my current TL prior to buying.
If you're serious about it, i would ask for some kind of guarantee or warranty in writing to safeguard you from un-foreseen problems, or that known CEL. With a 6MT that could mean a # of things.
