Potential new owner

Hey fellow Acura loyalists! As an Integra owner for 15 years, I'm about to take the leap to the 2007 TL. I only have a couple of questions. Does anyone here have low back issues, and if so, are the seats comfortable to you? I think it would be a huge improvement from the Integra, but have heard mixed reviews on that. Also, would I be better off waiting for the new body style in '09 and either get an '07 very cheap or steop up to an '09 (which I predict will have fold down seats and All Wheel Drive)? This is a very tough decision to make. I think my biggest gripes would be no fold down seats and front wheel drive (although I'm used to the front wheel drive). Thoughts? I've looked at the Nissan Altima ('07, which rocks) as an alternative, but think I would have buyers remorse buying a Nissan.

Also, does $31,000 sound like a good deal for the base model? I think Acura will have a $1500 rebate in a month (thats what a dealer told me), so I may take advantage of that, lowering my cost to $29,500. Seems like a steal to me!

I don't have back problems, but the 07 TL has lumbar support. So that may help out a bit. But, with so much talk of the 09s I'd wait. Love my 07 and I have taking a few long drives and haven't had a problem with my back or butt.

That sounds like a great price. I got my 07 for around that price plus trade-in. I'm in Chicago and the MSRP was like $37K. I figure the dealer still made around $2000-2500 profit (not including the trade-in).

That price is a steal. I love the new TLs. I just picked up my 07 Navi last week. My back is fine, but they feel like the would give as much support as one would need. The new TLs seem to have stiff suspension, even worse in the Type-S. I suppose they are going after that Sports-car feel. That can make your back hurt a little. As much as I would like to wait on the new model, I still wouldn't buy the first year of a redesign.

I had the integra LS for 6 years. I got the 07 TL last week. I think the ride is pretty stiff. I had some lower back issues but I was more comfortable in the integra.

The TL test drive seemed good, but on 20 minute commute I start getting uncomfortable. I am having doubts to keep to TL or sell it.

As a former Integra Type-R owner (R.I.P. '01 #349 and '00 #1468), I have to say the TL-S is a downgrade. Just in terms of the workmanship, handling of the car, etc.

And let's not forget depreciation...I paid $23,500 for my Type-R, and six years later got $20,000 from insurance. I doubt the TL-S will hold its value that well...

To be clear, the only reason I bought this car was I had to (damn thieves). Otherwise, I would have never gotten rid of the Type-R.

My two cents.

The lumbar support is def helpful for the lower back, the seat was actually starting to hurt mine a bit before i engaged it. If you have lower back trouble, i'd rethink it.

was your integra 4 doors? not sure why you'd compare them...

Welcome to Acurazine!

I don't have any back problems, but still have an '88 Integra as well as the TL-- the TL has a firmer ride, but the TL seats are more comfortable for me (5'9" and 160-165 lbs.).

And the price you were quoted is very good. Get the Navi if you can, though.

I think the answer for me is to take it overnight, as the dealer agreed to let me do. I don't like what I'm reading here regarding comfort. The base TL isn't supposed to be as stiff as the type S, which was another reason for me wanting it. I hate to say it, but I may have to look at something else. I did drive the new Altima 3.5 and I have to say it was as impressive and more comfortable. But I'm sure its made with cheaper parts and isn't as visually appealing (to me, anyway).

Stev, I wasn't comparing it to the Integra except in terms of comfort. The Integra has become uncomfortable and is only a 2 door. I want a 4 door and something more fun to drive. Since my Integra is a '99, it doesn't get up and go like it used to, not to mention not having nearly as many features as the TL. But its not a luxury car.

I thought TL (base or type-s) is in a different market segment comparing to Altima.

I'm sure Altima is a fun car to drive, but it's unfair to line it up against our beloved Tl ... lol ... maybe G35 or maxima is a better choice for comparison ...

Just my $.02

It's interesting to me to read how many people feel the TL (TL-S) is an uncomfortable (or challenging at least) ride. Definitely firm, but nicely so. I just bought a brand new TL-S on Tuesday after Lexus bought my ES-350 back due to tranny problem. I've put over 400 miles on it and I love the ride. It is much more comfortable due to some excellent thigh support. I've had two lower back operations (to lumbar disc herniations) and this is one of the most comfortable rides I've ever been in. I use the lumbar support feature to its fullest.

I have to chime in here, too. Have had my car for about 4 mos. now, and have done a couple of 300-mile trips. I love, love the seats! (I have a TL-S.)

I have a very sensitive lower back, and think these seats are the best I've ridden in. My sis had back surgery and loves the support, too. I use the lumbar support cranked up.

It does ride a bit rough over certain bumpy roads, but I expected that.

The seats do offer a lot of support but not soft comfort, so it really is about- can you take the road bumps.
Current disc probs will show up right away.
And the car sits pretty low- so consider getting in and out several times.
Many owners learn to remove wallet from pants pocket or face back troubles soon!!

Take both models and a Lexus for overnight drives- put an hour or 2 solid sitting and driving- or whatever you can handle, simulate stop and go- thats a killer usually
and check the brake and gas for g loading on your back.

Yes I know way to much about this subject- dont ask me how- lets just call it

I definately have back problems. Heavy lifting my whole life! The TL seats are firm, but I have had no problems with pain in my lower back in these seats. I can't wait to get off work and relax in them. I always keep them tilted as much as possible. I LOVE the drivers 10 way seat. The passenger seat is only a 4 way. I don't like it, but its still comfortable. I wouldn't want to sit there on a long trip. I am 6'1" and 190#. Hope this helps.

Here's my thinking:

Last Fall (Sept or so), before the new 2007s came out, the dealers had to get rid of the remaining 2006s. Since the 06's didn't have the new-and-improved features of the 2007s, their price had to be less than that of the 2007s. (Even if the 2007's changes were not that big, since they were yet in stock, it had the effect of making the 2006s seem 'old' and less desirable. )

So back then 31000 would be a great price for a TL-with-NAVI (originally stickered at 36000), and 28-29000 would be a great price for a base TL-without-NAVI (originally stickered at 33000).

When the 2007 TLs first came out, I would think they probably held closer to their MSRP prices 33K? TL, 36K? TL with Navi, 38K? TL-S.

Now that it's almost summer of 2007, there's probably some drop-off in prices.

I'd think that paying 29,500 for the 2007 (base) sounds like a great price. It's not like there's a 2008 with changes which is pushing down the price of the the 2007. The real proof is if other dealerships have similar pricing, or if this is a better deal.

Is that price for any base 2007, or just 1 unit in stock (which happens to have 6000 miles on it! )
